It is important to balance your fear of the dark with your fear of the hedgehog that follows you into it. Is there a rule set for editing that? |

Is it possible to work so much on the image that when you sit back and look at it you love it and hate it at the same time?
Well, that is where I sit.
I've poured alot of time into this so you will be seeing it for I will NOT be doing anything at this sort of level again. |

I've entered even though my first effort was brilliant then photoshop decided to crash so I had to do it again and never got it quite perfect but that's OK cos I kinda suck at photoshop anyway.
Im in. God help me. |

I am surprised there are not that many entries so far? Alot of people going to submit last minute? I have some last minute editing to do when I get home, then I will resubmit! Looking forward to this one... hope I am not disappointed with my score. |

I keep looking at the low entries and thinking I really should enter, but I've had no time this week to shoot. It sucks because I think I've only entered one expert editing challenge since I've been here.

How?
Expert Editing:
"You may not: [..] add graphics or clip art images to your entry or its border during editing."
Under this?
"You may: [..] use images that do not meet the source or date requirements as textures in your entry if they function specifically as textures and not to circumvent other rules" |

Yes, I know exactly how you feel. I feel the same about my entry (I used it as a learning example in my Photoshop tutorials :)

If I want to use the front page of my newspaper in my creation, I could simply take a picture of it and use it that way...

Lev, I've given this post alot of thought. I pulled my image because you are absolutely right!
The rarity of the gift comes in not only convincing us, but also in giving the rest of us something to aspire to...;-)
I just don't think I've reached that state yet of poetic...Inner Peace |

So what happened to the fun of creating? Playing with ideas? Why do we get so obsessed about calling what we do "something" art and if it is not art it is not worth doing?? As it is surely not about recognition and/or scores! It has been proven over and over again from the results of challenges that what some consider a very artistic expression others do not. There is no objectivity in assessment, no rules. So let's not forget having fun in being creative in our own ways. |

I had lots of fun with mine. It's no where's near art and will probably tank, but I still had fun. |

Do I get excited about expert editing challenges?
No.
Do I think they have a place on DPC?
Definitely
Am I going to avoid expert editing challenges because I don't have the skills that can compete with the incredible photoshoppers on this site?
Absolutely not! I just need to step up my photography and learn more about photoshopping.
Do I plan on becoming a digital artist and doing more photoshop than photography?
Absolutely not
Then why bother doing expert challenges?
Because the photoshop techniques that I'm using, even though the go far beyond my interests, are invaluable to improving the basic photoshop skills that do interest me.

I'm in. I had fun creating it. Maybe someone will have fun looking at it. Who knows?
For a while I wondered if it was unique enough, blah blah blah, but I got over it. |

I'm in. I had fun creating it, and I'm surprised that I could. People will probably think it's not unique. I'm entering it anyway.
I had fun. :D |

One thing I guarantee everybody: nothing like my image has ever been seen on DPC or, probably, in the history of the world :-)

I was debating my dopy friend rugman1969 today on this. He felt that the crazy edits do not belong on DPC. I told him that they had a place...in EXPERT editing. We have MINIMAL, BASIC, ADVANCED, and EXPERT. Each has it's own rules.
He's just mad because he bought PS and still doesn't know how to use layers......Muhaaahaahahahaaaa

Hey....those textures in the gallery.....are we allowed to use those w/o permission? Can we use a texture on a human arm, zebra, frog or wall in expert editing?

Yes to the first question. For the second question, you can use any texture anywhere as long as it is used AS a texture. But there's a gray area there, so be careful!

Well, for me, this image ended up being more of a technical exercise than a creative one. I'm brand new at this stuff. I nitpicked over my pixels to get a solid edit, but the creativity part really doesn't express any depth. I waffle alot...I know.
Anyways, I'm going to roast coffee beans now and attend yoga class at the studio.
Have fun and I'll be sure to vote well on this one over the weekend! ;-) |

It does suck, Richard, if anybody should enter, it's got to be you, from what I've seen, you are the best master of "digital arts" on DPC. |
