i think some of the ones come from (and i hope i'm rong) people trying to meet the 20percent thing for their votes to count i hope this is not the case cause if it is then i just may have to except it which i dooooo noooot want to dooo!

Hmmmmmm might have to score a few 11's & 12's to gain some respectability here. Never thought I would be grateful for an average of 4.00 after staying under 4.00 from the begining. All I could see was that brown ribbon.

| Started off at 5.2+ and dropped to a low of 4.4+ and now on the rise @ 4.6+. I just hope it continues to go up. |

Hey, I really liked your "touch" entry!
Honestly, sometimes I do not understand the voting. For example, in the "Eye", errr, "Defining Feature" challenge, the eyes definitely had it, and what will probably ribbon is an eyeball or a pair of eyeballs. Not that I have anything against eyeballs, but I do like originality. Anyhow, I am not sure where that came from, but, enough of that.... |
I love that picture, thank you for the positive feedback, I appreciate it! Yeah, I tried to be creative with my defining feature submission, and it's doing about the same. I thought it would do better, but people seem to be criticizing the photo for the very idea it's supposed to represent! I don't know, I wasn't trying to create the perfect technical photo, I was trying to capture her defining feature. Oh well. Cest la vive. |

LOW SCORES - Consider this.
I too was surprised at all the low scores placed early. Then my score average went up.
I wonder if it is the subject. Communication - (Photograph something used to convey passing ideas or information from one person or group to another person or group.)
Communication is so broad and items used for communication are so common place that perhaps others felt the subjects were too common to create interest in the photographer and voter.
I decided to check what the voting averages of the people that vote. The averages were mostly in the 4.3 to 5.3 range for the voters that I checked (about 30). Oops... I guess I've been too generous with my scores! (I think my average should stay in the 5-6 range:>)
My personal opinion is that I did not see as many good photos in this challenge as in the last two. Not many attracted and held my attention. Perhaps most images were just too "average".
How do some of the rest of you feel? Is there more than usual average shots in this challenge?
If a lot of voters feel there were too many average shots that may explain the lower scores for everyone.
Even if you put a lot of work into you photo the subject may suffer from overexposure.

I found the same thing at first.. outside of DPC, my family and friends are often impressed by my photographs, and I get constant requests to shoot for them. I always thought I was pretty good.. until I got here. LOL. Now, I know I'm still "pretty good".. but I have a LONG way to go, and a lot to learn.. and I'll probably continue learning to the day I die. Still, I *have* learned a lot.. and every low score I get gives me inspiration to do something different, and every highly scored photograph I see that I don't like, gives me reasons to think differently, and try to remember that what we *like*, and what is considered *great*.. are two entirely different things.

I'm actually surprised at this one. I was sure my picture would do poorly, but it's been climbing ever since the first night... and to have 10 comments kicks a@%, and they're all positive on top of that, and then someone even chose it as a favorite! How cool is that? I really like my shot, but I thought it would just hover around 5.0, so this pleases me!

| I have about a 3.19 average and only 5 comments. I don't get it. Plus, only two of the comments really helped me. |
