Whew, I can finally post outtakes from Fairy Tales. I've been waiting for the Framing challenge to end. I wonder how many people noticed that my photos were from the same shoot. I received a few comments.

I did... I loved them both, and I absolutely adore the series. Fantastic work. You're filling up my favourites hehe :)

Thanks mocabela. That is quite an honor to receive such an average vote considering the fact that I have never broken the magic 7 mark and I've tried 79 times now.

I understand that this sort of work isn't everyone's cup of tea so I'm all the more pleased when I find someone who appreciates it.

Do people not like them because they find them too scary?

hmmm... could be.
Well, not scary exactly, but... they give me some kind of restless feeling.
I liked the framing picture. I liked less the fairy tale. But I think what bothered me the most is the harsh atmosphere. Well, personally I avoid cemeteries at any cost :-(
The pictures themselves, technically speaking, I think are very good.
They make you think... that's for sure

I think I rated your framing one up there though.. I'll have to go check. *EDIT* Hmm.. I gave it a 6. I think because of the tilted perspective, and the fact that the tree was too overpowering... but then, I have no idea what I'm doing half the time.. and I'm really still fine tuning my voting. I think if this challenge was today, I'd give it a 7 or an 8.

That's pretty much what I figured happened with the fairy tale one. I knew it wasn't very fairytaleish but I'm not really good at shooting that sort of thing plus I only had myself for a model and I don't look like sleeping beauty, little red riding hood, cinderella, snow white, etc... there aren't many male characters in fairy tales and I have no idea what jack from jack in the beanstalk is supposed to look like.

I had a tough time with Fairy Tales too. I finally did the "Puss in Boots".. but people bitched about it cause I had to use shoes, not boots (even though the shoes had a very "fairy tale" look to them).. picky picky picky! ;)
Every challenge I enter seems to help me get more and more creative though... I can't wait until I'm up to 79 challenges entered!

yup! then you too can have the pleasure of feeling like you're getting worse and worse. I feel like the average scores given have dropped dramatically from when I first became a member. Then again, it could have something to do with the fact that I always submit whatever crappy photo I took even if it doesn't meet the challenge just cause I like to have something to look at during the week even if I don't have the time to take good photos.

Don't discount the fact that membership and registered users are on an incredible rise, and, as is the case with averages, the more you have, the more average the average. It's much easier to wow and impress a small group of people than it is to get the attention of a large group of people, and I would have to say that a drop in average scores for everyone has a lot to do with this.

Some people, however, have a talent for doing just what I said was harder to do.. and those people impress *me*.. even if sometimes they lose a part of what makes them *them*, in order to do so.

It's funny. There's a good chance I might ribbon in the Travel Guides challenge but I really don't care for my photo that much and I almost wish I hadn't submitted it because I don't want that sort of thing showing up as my highest rated photo on my profile page because people browsing will assume that's the kind of photograph I take and like taking.

Yes, maybe some of your lower rated photographs weren't examples of pristine photography, but if one goes from the lowest rated *first*.. to the highest rated last.. one sees an incredible journey! I would love to see your entire portfolio put together chronologically.. it would be absolutely *fascinating*.

(This goes for *anyone's* portfolio, especially if it's over a period of a couple/few years.)
