smoke can make very interesting photos. how about a challenge where smoke plays a big role in the composition of the picture?

Great idea -- added it to our grab bag :)

looking forward already, perhaps make it an open challenge, so people wont just make the smoke with photoshop.

Kinda' like these?

(Keep in mind, these were taken a few years back with the OLD Mavica)

This was an experimental, all-electric Honda I was involved in the development of. (I was given the motor, the batteries, computer and the car and had to convert a normal Honda Civic and retrofit it).
The engineers goofed that day and crossed the leads on the 240 Volt supply and the circuit breaker fused!

Whee - that was exiting!!

and you never got to retrofit again...

Actually #2 is here now. Going to be a Civic Del Sol conversion.

Besides, the Engineers were the ones that goofed!
That particular one was cleaned up, fixed and is still undergoing tests a couple years later.

I'll bet the 240v cigarette lighter works great.

I thought this was going to be a thread on smokeditor's string of challenge entries. Where there's smokeditor, there's a photographer on fire.

Nope! Was removed as a non-essential item.
The batteries served well as an alternate lighter!
LOL

Smoke would be very neat as a challenge subject...here are a few of my favorite smoke-related shots (off the top of my head):

...and I agree it should be an open challenge so there is no PS-created smoke! ;o)

I like this idea. Smoke can make for interesting photos. I have done a few shots with smoke in the past:

Too true! You'll need fire extinguishers handy for this challenge :)

I'm sure some of the folks around here are just dying for the opportunity to light something on fire in the name of photography...

"Honey, I REALLY didn't mean to burn down the garage...but it was for a CHALLENGE! You understand, don't you pumpkin?"

Maybe D&L better check their liability insurance... ;o)

LOL - It has to be some statement from dpc so you can't sue them afterwards hehe.

Here is my best Smoke work.

I can hardly wait for those purists who would check for the difference between "smoke" and "steam".

...and those who argue the differences between smoke as a verb and as a noun. ;o)
