I get that you do not like titles. I am commenting on people who over emphasizing their displeasure
by voting 1's and 2's. It has not happened here for a few years.

I dont think it was because of the title: I think it was because of the definition. Abstracts are about lines, shapes and colors. If it is recognizable as an object - it is not an abstract.

I highly disagree with the definition. There are definite abstracts that are recognizable and still abstract.

And yours wasn't one of the titles that bothered me at all. I gave it a 7.

I think it is about time to remove descriptions from Abstract challenges. I don't agree that a geometric abstraction of a recognizable object is not abstract just because the voter recognized what object it is a part of.

Please remove this very confusing statement:
"If it is recognizable as an object - it is not an abstract"

Thanks for clarifying.

Just to clarify: as said before, for me, the title can influence my scoring. But a score of 3 or lower I reserve for images that are of poor technical quality and show an unimaginative approach and have a lack of appeal of the image and do not meet challenge theme (i.e. a combination of negative factors). Yours was above that certainly.

I don't think they're emphasizing their displeasure over the title.

Some folks use the entire scale of 1-10.

I don't.

I basically use 6-10 for all the normal stuff and if it's really bad for some reason (in my opinion), I'll go lower. But, I don't remember the last 1, 2, or 3 I ever gave.

You got me curious, though, so... I checked the first 30 Blues on my list. Only two did not have a four vote or less. MOST had more than one.

But, let's go with my "Simile" entry.

Surely no one could object to the title, since it was a simile. Yet, I got six votes of four or under.

I just think people vote the way they vote and if they do it consistently, it will all work out across the board.

You are referencing 2012. Things were very different then. I have found during the last few years, although the numbers of
entrees and participants were way down, so too were the number of voters who used 1,2's and 3's.

With archival challenges, Covid 19 and more participants we have gone back to the full voting block. I have not gotten 1,'s2's or 3's
in several years. I am not trying to rehash the whole low voting ad nauseam. I am using my image that received both 10's and 1's
as an example of a change that has taken place here with new/old participation. That and I get that some people do not like titles on
abstracts.

That's all.

I just took my 30 most recent blues. So they're all in there, but... I do see what you're saying. I just don't think they ever stopped voting those low numbers.

At least not on my images.

I don't think titles should ever be required. They should be optional, always. Artist's choice.

:D

Maybe animal right activist objecting to the use of animals for human enjoyment? :-)

Your last line is spot on.

I can go along with that. It's an old challenge description and we have never changed it. I'll make sure it doesn't get used again.

I don't know. I don't think it's such a big deal. Don's obviously rubbing off on me. Since the beginning of the year, I've had two brown ribbons, and a photo where he was my highest score.

The world may be coming to an end.
