I just got a D70. The main reasons I picked this camera over the Digital Rebel was that it felt like it was sturdier construction and it wasn't a de-featured version of the D100/10D. The picture quality was pretty similar between the D70 and the Rebel based upon what I saw on DPReview.

Me, too....2, Olympus C750UZ and Fuji S7000. The D70 is not in the cards but I'm going to give it a serious go by the end of the year...I hope...I think...I may....That D70 feels great! Not yet.

I picked up my A1 just over a month ago - can't believe it's been that long. My budget wouldn't stretch to cover a DSLR at the moment - or, more correctly, I could afford to get an SLR but not the lens habit that goes along with it! This is the third digital for me, and so far it's been the best camera I've ever owned. I find the quality and feature set are amazing, especially for the price. Plus, it can do some things that an SLR can't, like display a live histogram, or let you put the focus and spot meter point anywhere in the viewfinder.

My Sony 828 :D I've grown too used to the swivel lens and now I can't live without it. Hmmm, is that bad? It's a WONDERFUL feature though.

I know exactly what you mean. That's my FAVORITE feature of the F717 and of my F505 before that. Holy cow, do I own THAT many cameras?!

I just, this very night, ordered a Canon EOS-300D Rebel with the standard lens. I am soooo excited about it. Why did I choose this camera? Cuz 1056 DPC members can't be wrong... right? By this weekend I should be a happy camper :)

Bought my Z2 last month for its point and shoot for my wife and the advance features for myself, though I am still learning how to use it. One day soon I will post some worthy shots.

Bought my first dSLR two weeks ago (300D). Had a Powershot G5 before and it was great, but not a dSLR !
I think the reason for this purchase was probably how popular this camera is.
Can´t say that I regret buying it ! ;-)

Yep 10D for me, 1 Canon S40 (off eBay) as a compact carryall for me, 2 Cannon A200's for my kids, a waterproof housing for the S40 so I can play in the water too ;-)

Actually I carry the 10D everywhere with me, the S40 doesn't really get a look in. I travel through the Peak District national Park every day to and from work. There is so much to see and record, I've taken 10,500 images since christmas with the 10D alone. Thats 2/3 of a 120Gb harddrive ;-)

I got my 10D on Saurday!

I chose it from various reviews in mags and on the net, and also advice from DPC. There was a massive backlog from Canon but after 2 weeks of searching I finally managed to find an online shop that had a few in stock - UK Digital Cameraand they delivered in 2 1/2 days.

I was temped by the the Rebel but thought that if i was gonna get a DSLR, i would spend slightly more for a better camera.

I did. D70 rules. Highly recommend it to ther people too. From then on, I placed higher in DPChallenges. 5 of my 6 entries occupied the TOP 10 since I used my D70.

The reason why I bought it is because I have a strong urge to upgrade my quality of work. I am not disappointed.

D70 rules.

I bought a Panasonic FZ10, I passionately love this camera and have no regrets. The picture quality is absolutely superb, due to a razor-sharp Leica lens, which is 35mm-440mm equivalent zoom. I love the far end of that zoom. Image Stabilising opens up your options in low light. Burst mode of 4 shots a second. Proprietary battery lasts for AGES. Fully manual modes. Wonderful colour reproduction. I recently used my wife's Fuji 602, and the Panasonic has way less noise than that (comparing both cameras at lowest ISO). Camera looks great, and handles well.
I was considering buying a DSLR, but the convenience of this camera was what did it for me, I don't want to be changing lenses every 2 minutes. When I'm ready, I will have a DSLR AND this camera in the future, which will hopefully cut down my need to change lenses. And there are VERY few photos I take where I would significantly notice the difference between the FZ10 and a DSLR. I've dug out my old manual Minolta 35mm camera with 50mm 1.4 lens for the times I really need to take some low-light shots.

I very recently left my Kodak DC4800 for a Nikon D70 kit. I haven't looked back yet - in fact I lugged it and my new tripod through three days of walking around on our recent vacation despite being a whole lot less comfortable than my old digicam. The pictures we took are simply amazing compared to what I used to take.

I was almost going to buy a Canon 300D, but the specs on the D70 looked like it was closer to a D100 in some ways, and the lense that came with it is simply amazing. The local shop had all of their stock on backorder, but one buyer hadn't shown up the day before so they sold me his. It was meant to be! I'm sure someone is very angry with me at the moment, but I'm not feeling too guilty :)

Me too!

I had an SLR film camera and wanted to go forwarded into digital so I could capture my honeymoon to Hawaii.

Why the 300D? Cos.. Canon have the best lenses and upgrade path. It helped that it was the cheapest dSLR on the market :)

Me, I already have canon products and I just couldn't quite
swing the price of the 10D

Just after the Easter weekend I got my SLR CANON 300 REBEL. I ordered the whole set of wide angle , macro lens, plus today I can collect the zoom 75 - 300 IS. With it came a studio light table plus a super flash. (expect more studio shots now)
All I need now is some good ideas to get to my first ribbon.
Last week I had my first TOP TEN entry.
Pity, now I cannot blame the camera anymore.
Let's keep up the good work.

I've tried the D70 out and took the files home and played with them on my G5 with the 23" Apple Cinema high definition TFT monitor. The pictures were awesome, very comparable to what I get from my D1X and if I must say in some ways better than my D100. However I won't be trying to sell my D100 to get one. I like the tonal quality of the D100 better for working in a portrait studio. In other words the contrast on the D100 is not as overpowering as most other digital cameras on the market.

I've been very fortunate this year... Bought a Minolta A1 - like it ALOT but miss the feel and handling of an SLR after playing with my husband's old Minolta X700. So... I ordered a 300D (should get here today!!!) with the kit lens. I figure if I don't like it, I can return it and go back to my A1 which is still a darn capable camera. Why did I choose the 300D? Well I looked at the 10D - nice but a little more than I wanted to spend and honestly, unless I actually start selling prints, I can't justify the price. Especially considering the amazing results people are getting with their 300D's. After all, it's not the camera right!? I looked at the D70 as well - also a very good choice but I had experience with Canon's Elan 7e so it was an issue of being familiar with Canon quality and build for me.
Also bought a Pentax S40 as the portable, take everywhere family cam.
Of course, now my pour husband starts to shake at the mere mention of a trip to the camera store! ;-)

I just got a d70 (well my gf gave it to me). i wanted it because i felt i had outgrown my s602. that camera was great, and served as an excellent learning tool. when the d70 fell into my hands, within minutes i had a comfortable feel for all the menus, settings and options. and now that i've been shooting it for a couple weeks, i feel really good about handling it. love this camera. now i just need to get some more lenses :)

I made a planned upgrade to the Nikon D70. I purchased a Canon Powershot A40 starting out. Had a good bit of fun with the camera, but needed to get back into the swing of things using a SLR. My long term goal is getting back into large format photography, which requires me remembering how to expose correctly. :)

The D70 was almost a no brainer. Good price, and since I had Nikon glass to start with, this helped. :) I'm at 2500 images since I got the camera in May. Loving it.

I bought a Pentax Optio S4 late last year (does that count ? :)

The Canon D60 is great, but big and bulky. I wanted something for travel snapshots.

it does okay
for something small enough to fit in an altoids tin
