I got my new camera today! Now if I just knew how to use the derned thing.
Very steep learning curve ahead.

Now that I have a decent camera I'm getting worried though. What if I find out it really WAS the photographer and not the camera causing all my bad photos?

Anyone have a suggestion for a good lense for under $400?

I bought a Digital Rebel on June 9, 2004 because I wanted to be able to have a zoom lense to take bird photos.

I still like my Sony 717 very much for close shots.

I am busy now trying to learn to use the Rebel. I have used a film SLR in the past but see this new camera as offering me the opportunity to learn alot.

Well, after getting a Minolta 7i in August last year, I felt totally out of date, and got me a Pentax Optio S4, then when my wife saw it, I had to buy her one as well. Why the S4??? Just to be able to carry it around in the Altoids tin :-) I even got collector's edition tins to carry it in (Curious George, Mr. Bumbles and Heat Miser). I just love pulling it out and watching people ooh and ahh over it. And it does take halfway decent photos as long as you watch the white balance.

i purchase a Dimage z2 i also have my first love a Olympus 340. so far i'm pleased with the new digi--but still learning how to use all the features--also purchased a EOS rebel (film) for the wife. unfortunately she has been laid up with a broken foot for the past 2 weeks so we haven't had time to toy with it yet

I will have a new Digital Rebel w/ kit lens and a 420ex flash by the end of this month. Going to blow much of the overtime pay I accumulated lately. Going to use my semi-crummy Tamron 100-300 5-6.3 from my old 35 mm Rebel as my telephoto zoom until I decide on a replacement lens for it: most likely 70-300 w/macro function.

Aaaaaand... I'll get to play with all of Jacko's toys when we get together. Life is good.

Just had my brother order the S602Z for me in the UK.

The Fuji comes with 16MB SmartMedia card, 1GB IBM Microdrive, 4 AA alkaline batteries, 4 Ni-MH rechargable batteries and charger, Shoulder strap, Lens cap, Lens cap holder, AV Cable, USB Cable and software on CD-Rom. Price : 300 Stg.

Though it was a good deal after the goods reviews I read so I took the plunge.

Can I ask why the 828? I tried one at the store for kicks [no offense to you directly] and just thought it was a horrific piece of titantic equipment. I'm not trying to be facetious.

The F828 is the best thing you can get if you want a camera for under 1000 bux that can do better pictures than any other non-SLR and can do awesome video. Plus the swivel base is the best invention ever. Can be very creative with it. It's a non-SLR photographer's dream come true. I love my 828. Have fun with yours!

It arrived! So excited. Learned most of it today (well at least the basics and a few advanced features), going to take it on an excursion tomarrow! :)

I got a digital rebel less than a week ago. Although I didn't buy it, it was a gift from my parents.

The reason why I picked the 300d over the 10d and Nikon d70 is because it was cheaper than the 10d, plus it came with a lens and heard about the firmware hack. I didn't get the d70 because the store didn't carry any Nikon lens which seemed kind of strange.

I bought my 10D earlier this year.
Reason: It was the most expensive camera and lens I could get my wife to go for. :)
Unfortunately, now she’s always using it… and getting better photos too!!! :( I guess I’ll just have to buy myself a 1D-Mk II next year and give her the 10D.

I picked up a Nikon d70 and made the transition to a dSLR- can't imagine ever going back, I love it!

Erm, I came down with terminal camitis this year,
Fuji 6900 (secondhand)
Minolta A1

Both the above have since been sold to finance the purchase of my 300D. Ok, so I lost £150 on the deals but I don't reckon it's so bad, especially since the 300D was almost £300 less than it was at Christmas! I make that a £150 profit lol.

I did! I got my 10D in January.

Reason: my 1st digital cam was olympus and it was nice for 2 years but I missed using SLR features. I felt stifled and needed something better. I have used a Canon Elan EOS IIe for years and it was my baby. It was just very expensive to get good photos developed, just so i can scan them for my site. And I wasted tons of photos on my cats anyhow.

So, when my house sold, I went out and bought a 10D that week. It could use all of my Canon EF lenses, filters and tripod. It was the obvious choice for me since I love Canon and couldn't afford to go higher than the 10D. My budget was $2K for everything (camera, batteries, bag, Storage Data, Card Reader, etc.).

I had considered the Sony F828, which was just released at that time. I read great things about the lens. However, I wanted to use interchangeable lenses, not just be stuck with one. I wanted a camera that could do almost everything my Elan EOS IIe could do. I don't have the "e" but I have learned to live without it.

The 10D also had a really fast ISO, which I love for taking pictures at night of things moving fast. It also had bulb (which many SLRs do), but I needed this setting for my natural lighting long exposures. Most important to me: using my old Canon lenses and being able to get new lenses in the future!!!

I have my order in for the D70!!! As soon as I get it (might be a couple more weeks (boo, hoo) I'll have a new camera this year :))))

I considered the dRebel, but I really didn't like the looks, and I've always wanted to have a Nikon. The couple lenses I have are from my old Pentax SLR, and I guess they'll stay where they are for now. Good thing it's only a couple.

I can't wait to get the D70!

Got my F828 for Xmas. I know it's not really THIS year, but close enough. hehe

I love this camera, and didn't want to spend a lot of money on other lenses, so it works great for me.

Just received my new Sony DSC-F828 on 6/3, and thus far have been extremely pleased.

Oh I was thinking this doesn't apply to me but it does somewhat. My girlfriend bought me the Canon Powershot A80 for my birthday. It's a great P&S.

I guess I can add ME to the list, since I brought home a Digital Rebel this afternoon! I chose it after long, and careful research and review of lots of cameras. I finally decided what the heck -- go DSLR and grow with the system. I got back into photography two years ago with a simple A10, and then bought an A70 and so far have taken 4,900 pictures with it. I guess I really LOVE photography, now that there's digital. So, I bought a 300d and look forward to lots of great images.

I also think that buying a new lens now and then will amost be like buying a whole new camera! Right now, all I have is the kit lens but I'm going to take the advice of the fellow at the camera store: don't buy any more lenses until you start losing shots because of not having the right lens -- then get one. So that's what I'm going to do!

Funny you should say that, because I only recently did a few tests regarding the preflash. The preflash is invisible in every case I tried.. except the last one I tried which was in complete darkness, and even then it wasnt that distracting.

That's very reassuring. Did it cause any sort of noticeable additional delay?

After three years with an Olympus C3000 I bought a Fuji S7000. The price was right to match all the features I wanted. I have run through about 3000 shots in three months. Several hundred courtesy of being on the infield of a NASCAR event. It had what I wanted although I am convinced that I will soon be unable to resist the siren call of a digital SLR. I must stay strong, at least until the next major price break.

I bought a Olympus C-5050Z last September. I was actually looking at many different options, but ended up getting that one when Kiwiness offered to sell me his camera when he upgraded.

Not much imagination in that story though lol At least I can sasy my camera has won some ribbons even if that was due to the previous owner lol
