As much as everyone hates flower pictures, I still love taking them.

I like photographing flowers as well. You seem to have captured the light on your irises. The only thing I would suggest, is try for a slightly shallower DOF so the siding isn't as sharp. To me it's a bit distracting.

Other than that, good capture and keep shooting flowers.

I was just out in the backyard practicing on Super Macro and came back in to see this Iris thread. Here is the beard on an iris.

A different mood? I was out yesterday. Mine haven't bloomed yet, but they are getting close.
I love flower shots.

This is a wild Yellow Flag Iris I took at Lake Erie Metro Park yesterday. I was practicing with my new Rebel. Getting more comfortable with it, but I still like my Olympus.

Well, I revisited my Iris tonight, better than my earlier post?

not as busy as this one

but it lost a lot in the resizing methinks.

My iris finally opened. It was worth waiting for, at least to me. Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks.

I am so glad to see this thread. I love taking and viewing flower pictures. (Guess it's a holdover from my "flower child" days). Anyway, I think iris are very difficult to photograph properly. I would appreciate any comments anyone would care to share about this image. Thanks, I really appreciate it.

These were supposed to be blue, but I understand they're really purple.

Gordon, is that a spider's web or fishing line caught in the bud? I've looked at this picture several times and just now noticed this. I really like the composition and the colors.

These are my first iris pictures (taken today):

By the way, I cut some iris buds from my yard and put them in a vase of water - does anyone know if they will open or should I not have cut them?

Thanks.

It is some silk from a gypsy moth larva. At the time I took this, the caterpillars were ballooning everywhere, so that's what that is (and why it looks like it has a knot in it too) I tried to include it in focus to make a triangle out of the composition - to give more of a closed path for the eye to flow around.
