Why "composite" instead of double/multiple exposure like discussed in this thread? Just curious.
Eta: I just saw Don's thread...so nevermind.
:-D

These threads/comments (in this case comments) always risk to create more confusion... composite, that's all. |

In fact all FS should be Expert.

People would have to get over their fear of Expert.
Sry about the triple post. I'm on my iPhone.

Sorry, but can't let that one fly by without a response ...
No thank you on the Expert FS suggestion. Advanced for Free Study challenges is just fine.
We're getting enough Expert challenges on the books as it is now. |

To me the double exposure type photo doesn't feel right for this challenge.
How to Shoot a Composite Image
I'd love to enter this one. I hope I can find the time to come up with something.

Cosidering how the challenge was proposed, I sure hope we get some nice crunchy sloppy double exposury overlays and not all tidy slick camp. |

Would have loved to have seen this as an extension to advanced. My thought was this came out of the post-texture discussion that spoke more to the compositing of multiple exposures ala double/triple-exposure shots instead of allowing for the typical Expert Editing photos that place one piece here, one piece there...
Again, simply an Expert FS. If I shoot I'm going with the spirit of Don's proposal, and like skewsme, I hope others do the same.
(Edit - just went back and reread the original thread. I retract my advanced complaint, but wish there was some sort of specific limitation placed around image blending instead rather than the typical compositing shown in the "How To Shoot A Composite" link two posts above)

I certainly don't mind that the challenge theme allows broad interpretation. It allows me to push the theme in any direction of Composite that interests me. I think it will be fun to see the range of different entries in this one. I hope folks go into voting with an open mind and give a score based on how interesting the image is rather than how closely they thought it adhered to what they thought the theme should be interpreted. |

AMEN! And let's hope the VOTERS understand that aspect of the spirit of the challenge... |

Composite is an open term. It simply means making an image out of multiple images. I used this term because I thought "layering" or "blending" was too restricted.
In this composite, I put a boy into a different setting:
It was done by blending layers but I may have done some masking as well. So, yes my preferred way of compositing is to blend layers together, but I don't want to limit it to texture overlays or even things that look like window reflections. I like those things, and I hope to see some of those in the challenge, and my photo might be one of those, but I also want to see objects and subjects from different images put next to each other. And if you can do all of that at the same time, like the master jmritz, then you really have a party going on.
And if you want to take a picture of yourself playing poker with yourself, well, yawn, that's your right. Almost every challenge has room for boring photos. I don't want to put walls up to keep the boring out.
I know that some people don't like ambiguous challenge topics because it makes a high score more difficult to predict and achieve. These are precisely the people I enjoy annoying.

Can we define "composite" as an expert editing challenge without a theme? an expert editing free study?

No different in that respect than Panorama, Texture Overlay, Low Contrast, Bokeh, etc... None of them put restrictions on what you shoot, only that a certain technique is used. |
