Artificial Symmetry II · Advanced Editing
Take a picture of something or someone. Use post-processing to create a new composition with artificial, perfect symmetry.
shouldn't there be a special rule to allow the pp to get the symmetry ?? my understanding is that "mirroring" and duch is not allowed under standard Advanced Editing rules. |

I was thinking the same thing. |

The first Artificial Symmetry was under expert. |

It's been fixed. The editing ruleset should have been "Expert" and now it is. |

Janine raises hand (sheepishly)
does that mean we can flip it? |

Looks like you can do just about anything to it you want to Janine - just make sure it's symmetrical and has a little exif somewhere :) |

Last time around some of the photos have elements that weren't symmetrical. That's why a special rule for duplication and flipping would have been better than expert editing. |

Agreed. I know some people love the duplicate it and flip it a million times kaleidoscope thing, but a simple rule adjustment for a single line of flip/mirror added to advanced would have interested me. This? Not so much. |

As of previous challenge the description had clearly mentioned "Your photo must be made up of two or more copies of the same photo flipped to create a symmetrical image."
Where as this challenge it does not say anything like that. Looking at description it looks like different kind of artificial symmetry. |

Why would it make a difference to you? You can still do exactly what you would have under that rule, so it doesn't have to have any impact on your entry. If you don't like the kaleidoscope type of entries, vote accordingly. Same applies to the comment by GinaRothfels about some of the previous entries that weren't symmetrical, use your vote. |

Because there's a specificity to the idea of "symmetry" in photography when you click the shutter. To be able to introduce that in post can make for some very interesting creations even with (and particularly with) a single line. There's a cadre of folks here would do bend-and-folds once a week because they love them so much, and it seems we must have them once a year to keep them happy, while other topics are shoved away because we did that 3 years ago.
Here's the crux of my issue - we're going to get 30-40 entries. If we're lucky we'll get 50. It would be far more interesting to compare creations bound be a single line than it will be to look at something that's simply folded until it's pretty. Sure, I can still enter, and likely will. But I won't vote, because I frankly don't want to throw 3's at people when I could care less about their flip and fold - and voting is the only thing this place lacks/needs more than participation. |

So... will there be a DQ if there is more than one image used in the challenge, as the description requires?
"Take a photo..." That's one, right?

It's a good question. Had it stayed Advanced with a flag rule I would say yes, one and only one photo. Expert and no flag tells me that all options available under Expert are good, including add'l ages. |

Regardless, remember to vote as if the photo is legal. |

Can we get a ruling on this, General, before voting begins?

There is no ruling to be made. It's up to the voters. Challenge descriptions are not rules. |
