I'll let you look at it. You can't touch it, though. Just look at it. Love it. More than that...luuuuurve it. After my first shot with it, I actually giggled. Dark room, F2.8, 1/10 shutter...and it was sharp. REALLY sharp. giddy up.

That was nice of them to let you take a photo of that lens in the store :)

It's so large. Use it wisely and don't forget to protect it.

Pedro, now that you have the d70 and the 300d, I would have to assume that you like the d70 better since you forked out at least $20 for that lens... What are you gonna do with the rebel?
05/27/2004 04:55:27 PM · #7
oh yeah...anybody want to buy a Rebel? :)

Here's the gear with my cat. he can't believe I'd use a Canon to photograph a Nikon.

ps edit: the lens was actually $25.

You could paint it white - folks might mistake it for a good lens then ;)

But then I'd have to use it on my other camera. And lord knows I wouldn't want that. ;)

Taken any pics with it you'd care to share ? :)

I want that lens, I understand if you use a tripod it throws off the VR and you get blurry shots. I would like to hear more about that.

Not yet. I'm getting on a plane in about an hour and will have some shots from the Ms Fitness Canada competition in Toronto to share on tuesday.

Not sure about the VR making it blurry on a tripod. It's kind of redundant on a tripod I would think. It can be turned off easily enough. G may know something about that...

The Canon IS lenses had that problem for a while too - but it has apparently been fixed in the later versions of the IS. Dunno if it is fixed for the Nikon VR or not.

The Canon versions also let you set it to only remove vertical shake (for example when panning on a monopod) . You can also typically just switch it off if that's a problem, like Pedro said.

The Nikon VR does in fact not work nicely with a tripod, but like Pedro said, it'd be redundant anyway. Like the Canon, there is a VR mode for panning... so if you're tracking a flying duck, you can get a smoother VR I guess. I haven't tried that feature, so not sure on it. The VR and 'Action' mode are easily switched on and off from the side of the lens though.

Congrats Pedro, you're gonna love that lens!

too bad it's a Nikon......my camera sales guy asked if I'd mind a Nikon strap for my Quantum battery pack [since the original went missing] and I told him 'no thanks, I have a reputation to uphold'

;-)

I have a rebel for sale, too, but never for a *gasp* Ni...Nik...Nikkk...Nikon.
