Weeeeeeeeeeel....
It's my once a year check-in to renew for another year and reflect on how much I am grateful to DPC for all it has been for me.
Of course I'm going to renew, and throw in for the extra space, too. As long as DPC is here, and I'm still dragging myself around somehow shooting, I'm here!
I came here in the summer of '06, pretty much with a new digital camera (My beloved Nikon D70s) and *NO* clue. I'm not going to go through chapter and verse, but instead merely a quick look at how far I've come.
I now shoot with a Nikon D810, I have it set the way *I* want it set.......with what I like to call "semi-auto" default settings that enable me to get the best results within the particular style and quirks as the camera and I work together. I am a good photographer, comfortable in that when I shoot, I'm going to get the image I saw and shot. That's truly a very simplistic description, but those of you who know what I mean can, and do appreciate being at that point in their photography. That's a huge achievement that often photogs wonder if they will ever reach.
And hence my post......the hundreds, probably thousands of hours that I've spent developing my skills have been with the help, support, and encouragement of this fine community.
Where this journey has brought me to of late......my darling Vivi, LoViand I have opened a gallery together: Vivi on Verbeke
Yah, it's just a FaceBook page for now, and we're not technically open yet, but this is the culmination of many years of hopes and dreams. I bought a townhouse in the Midtown Historic District of Harrisburg, PA, where I live in the second & third floors.
The first floor is our gallery. It's the absolute best of both worlds.......the heavy lifting is all done.......new boiler, central air, electric service, but the fine details and finish work are all yet to be done. We are having an absolute blast painting, installing antique doors, building displays, and just in general turning a slightly shabby old building into a home & gallery.
Never in a million years would I have considered this adventure had I not evolved into the photographer I am now.
I blame you guys in part for my happiness in Vivi's and my idyllic existence as gallery owners. Special thanks to quite a few of you who have selflessly spent time helping me.
Some pics........needless to say, I hope any of you that may be passing through central Pennsylvania will feel free to stop by and see us!
A quick view of some of our gallery.....

Just a few snaps to give you some sort of idea what we've started.
Again, many thanks, my friends at DPC!

Great news Jeb.... If I am ever in your area I will definitely stop in and say hello.
I might decide to take a trek down there soon as my daughter is dating a young man from Douglassville, PA.

Thanks, people! It's been an extraordinary adventure, and a realization of our dreams. It's wonderful to have your own place to exhibit your work, and I never would have gotten here without the DPC community.

I'm glad to be a small part of the whole package for you Jeb. I think you have found the right adventure partner this time.
Wishing you both happiness and success.
It looks like you may be "out of the woods" before long.

As long as I have friends like you, it doesn't matter if I'm in the woods, or someplace as open as the eye can see......
........especially if there's a kick-ass storm comin' at ya on the horizon!
IMPORTANT SAFETY TIP!
Some DPC mentors will involve you in sensory overload. There is a certain gentleman languishing in the swamps of Florida who comes to mind. If he offers you a day trip and there's a swamp buggy ride involved, don't say you weren't warned. He brought me home intact, but not unchanged!
LOL!!!

Thanks. I try to make sure that when DPC friends visit, we don't just walk around town pointing lenses at things.
There are several DPC'ers in your general area that I would enjoy visiting with on their home turf, so,,,, just maybe,, someday I will get to see the gallery. |

I've been down there twice, and STILL haven't had a swamp buggy ride!!! I protest! Just because he's given me some truly excellent experiences, doesn't mean that I'm letting him off the hook for a swamp buggy ride. :)
Huge congrats, Jeb!! What an awesome adventure!! |

Congratulations Jeb & Vivi! The gallery looks great, very warm & inviting. I would come in because of the mix of media offered. Always fascinating to watch an artist at work. I wish you both the very best. |

I'm pretty much of a motorhead junkie with years of wide and varied experience, and some of Waddy's friends build some of the most cool, fun, outrageous machinery I've ever seen. I know some of the stuff I saw was so out there, you had to be a special kind of equipment junkie to even understand how cool they actually are. And they're not the kind of folks who get their jollies scaring the crap out of you.......they take you places in these fine machines that you'd never reach otherwise. I was *SO* impressed!!!
