| I just did a quick browse through the challenge to drop a few comments (just 5 for now), and I enjoyed that way more than I thought I would. It really helps by forcing us photographers narrow down an image to what is really important and using the crop to enhance that. It's almost like a forced composition lesson. Some good stuff in there. |

Being able to articulate this will help improve your own photos, more than from the comments you get, because you will be conscious of and consider those factors the next time you take a photo of a similar subject or in similar conditions or situations. |

Indeed! I learned more from looking at photos here and daring to leave comments... about what I liked and didn't like... and that taught ME what I liked and didn't like about photos... and from that came... "my style" of photography. I was so thrilled the first time someone recognized my photo as mine... without my name attached to it here.
It's a win/win situation. Everyone likes to have comments... and you'll learn what you like as you study each photo to find something good about it... or point out how it could be improved.
That all said... I looked at the comments you've given and... I'd LOVE to have one of yours, Ellie! Your comments are thoughtful and have meaning to the photograph.

I wonder whether anyone else is having the same issue as me?
Ordinarily, entries take up a significant portion of the browser window, so I can see details in the dark areas.
However, the very skinny shape of these entries means the gray DPC background is right up against virtually the entire frame, and my eye just doesn't see details in the dark portions of the photos unless I zoom way in. I've done it a few times now, and I'm astonished what I can see.
That is, there's sort of an optical illusion going on: the bright DPC gray makes me see dark-but-detailed areas as pure black unless I zoom in enough to make the picture almost fill the screen, pushing the brightness away.
And that's changing my perception of the entries, sometimes significantly. |
