metallized/conductive fabric cloth over a foam shielding gasket is my best guess. |

Used to remove the static electricity from the paper or the glass?
Oops, Kirbic was quicker...

This was the closest, though you didn't exactly state the purpose, which is electrical grounding of components to each other. This particular bit goes between a copier and finisher to ground the finisher to the copier body. In military communications equipment, I've often seen it as a woven wire that gets squooshed between a unit and the frame.

We also call that RF shielding, sometimes used in a channel of a metal housing covered by a metal plate. It eliminates ground loops and also any circuit leakage that could affect another circuit. Thing is that didn't look conductive to me. What I am used to seeing is usually a metal woven cord. |

Marge says that they are sunglasses for an insect but that is so rediculous. |

Really I don't have a clue if you didn't notice and I think Marge is pretty far off also. |

Nope. None of you are even close yet :)
ETA: There's a reason the top is different from the bottom.

If your eyes are behind it you are SERIOUSLY misusing it (in a dangerous fashion). |

Nope, still way off. Your scale is off, Ken.
No food should touch this, since your hands are full when you use it. |

It is used in both professional and hobby environments, but calling it a toy is a bit misleading, as improper use can literally kill you. |
