Is that surface mount solder paste? If so that's quite a large pad of it, mounting a high power LED?
01/01/2012 06:37:31 PM · #327
If it hasn't already been guessed I will come back to it after dinner because as of right now... I am stumped. And that hint about the micro chip didn't help. Lol!!!

LOL, yes it is! Jeez, you guys are killing me!
The large pad is in fact a heat sink, though the component to be mounted is an integrated circuit, not an LED. The scale is pretty small. The pitch between the small deposits is 500µm (0.020"). The individual balls of solder visible in the paste are roughly 35µm in diameter, on average. You're at bat, Ben!

I've noticed there are mostly men playing this game and all the "whatsit" pictures are of tools or engine parts. I'd like to play but I can't identify any of these objects!

The three indents must create three projections on the rear surface. I assume this is a guide for the edge of something. The serrated edge I assume is meant to tear off something in strip or roll form. But if this material is does not fall into the categories of paper or foil, I'm coming up blank at the moment.
Am I correct in the function of the features?

They are not a guide. It used for tearing and shredding but not of foil or plastic wrap.

.. and nope and nope

Is the device used to roughen a surface?

01/01/2012 10:00:05 PM · #347
Yes, kinda, sort of, the results end up with a rougher surface.
