		Hello, 
 
 I currently have (had) an image in a challenge that was likely to become my 2nd best. Over the last few hours, it crashed. I know this happens to many of you. People work very hard to enter an image, only to have it trolled. I know this won't help much but for the next 90 days, I'm changing my scale.
 
 A 5 is now my lowest score. 6 and 7 is average. 8 and 9 is good. 10 is my highest...duh !

		I've been using 6 as the average for some time now. I figure enough people treat 5 as their average that it neutralizes out to a 5.5. I will still usually give out a handful of 4's and a couple of 3's in most challenges, however.

		I have a 5.54 voting avg now. I do hand out some 4s and even a 1 once in awhile. Not for 90 days at least. I'll likely keep my new scale after 90 days.

		I wonder if a voting scale similar to what photosig.com has with theirs would help people vote more fairly. Instead of just plain numbers you have words under the numbers. Something like this:
 
 1 ********* 2***** 3**** 4 ***** 5**** 6 ***** 7******* 8******  9  10
 offensive * below average * average * above average * Outstanding
 
 It doesn't seem like we should have to point this out to people, but I think people just throw out 1's to people just because they don't like the image when really it should be reserved IMO for truly offensive(in poor taste)images. I know to some a picture of a baby or a wine glass may be considered offensive, but come on people! |

		Bell shaped normal distribution curve using all the numbers.  After nearly 75,000 votes cast, I am consistent and not likely to change my voting scale.

 I agree -- I'd switch around nice and cool. "nice" is what my husband uses to mean everything from "that really sucks!" to "that's the most wonderful thing on the face of the planet!" :D

		| When I've been voting, I've made 7 the new 6, but I've also made 3 the new 4.  Why?  It means my vote makes more difference.  If you constantly voted 4-6 all the time you aren't differentiating the images much based on your score.  If you use all 1-10 scoring, you do so much more.  Previously I did a lot of 4-7 stuff with a small amount of 8-10 thrown in.  Now I'm trying to do 3-8 with some 9-10 stuff. |

 I agree that nice is rather conventional, cool has more poise and therefore they should be switched. Also, I'm not sure I understand the difference between meh and eh? |

		I don't why people are resistant to giving out 10s and 1s.  If the photo is very good and I find a connection to it or it is expertly captured (it doesn't have to be perfect) I will often give a 9 or 10.  If the photo is really bad and it is clear no effort was put in, I am fine giving a 1-3.  
 
 Remember, the voting scale is already rated for use 1 = bad and 10 = good.  No more, no less.
