Remember, the voting scale is already rated for use 1 = bad and 10 = good. No more, no less.

Your right of course. I just guess I haven't seen a picture that is so bad it should get a 1 or a 2. Heck I'm hard pressed to find one that should be a 3. Maybe I'm just easier to please :)

10 = like
1 = don't like

Binary is the way to go, man.

I shall adopt this!

I apologize for the misunderstandings my scale may have caused. Clarifications follow:

10. omg wtf (sofa king good)
9. awesome
8. rad
7. nice (Ben was correct. should be niiiiiice. Steve was wrong. Don't listen to Steve.)
6. cool (not Fonzie cool, but cool as in "I'm cool with that")
5. meh (with the "m" it simply means okay)
4. eh (without the "m" it becomes more of a question, it means "okay?")
3. whatever
2. gross
1. puh-lease

despite one glaring flaw, it is the best voting system I have ever seen...

6. cool = coulle
7. nice = marrant
8. rad = sympa

I score a photo on how well I believe the photo fits the challenge. If I don't see it, I try to give the photographer the benefit of the doubt. Yes, there are 'shoehorns' - I am seriously guilty of that.

After that, I think photographic skill should come into play. I'm certainly not the best photographer but I think some photos do well just because of their location and not because of the skill of photographing a difficult subject or situation. Yes, there is the edit and over time, I've come to respect those photos that look more like photos rather then paintings. Yeah, I try that 'hdr' look but I have no idea how to properly do it. My entrys suffer needless to say...

I do not vote on my personal tastes. Often, I give high scores to photos that do not appeal to me. I am not prefect, I have a fondness for photos of old motorhomes and I dislike photos that glorify alcohol. As for nudes, I don't really think they belong here but some of them are photographically excellent.

But, I know variety is the spice of life so there can be no 'rule'...

posthumous, I think I will print that voting scale and tape it next to my computer screen for referencing when voting. 8)

dianapf1, Your troll voting scale literally made me L.O.L.

It's fun to make fun of trolls, even though no-one probably votes that way. Got to blame someone for the low score, right? I think I will use posthumous' scale also.

My voting scheme !

I review my vote two times.
First time I put 2, 5, 8.

Second time review my 2s between 1 to 3.
Third time review my 5s between 4 to 6.
Fourth time review my 8s between 7 to 9.

Final time, I review my 9 to graduate some 10 !!

Overall I try to have a "normal curve" !

this actually makes a LOT of sense to me. i'm one of the guilty ones who generally uses 5-7 with occasional 8-9s with a rare 10. I like the idea of using the whole voting scale, that's what it's there for isn't it? (although i still think a "1" vote would be very rare, even more so than my rare "10")

That is a pretty cool idea Maroberts! I'll have to give that a shot the next go around :D

I look out the front window, and take the last digit of the license plate number (0=10), of the next car I see.

We live in a rural area, so sometimes there is not enough traffic to vote on every image.

Good news though. Yesterday we went on the 100 mile yard sale. I kept notes, so I have enough votes for several challenges now.

6 is my starting place. I almost NEVER give out anything less than a 5.

I was slammed by many in my last two 'voting spree' for being too stringent. My average score stayed around 3.5! Yikes.
I have my way of looking at things and no one can change it. But, I figured out a way to improve my voting score. Could someone tell me please, if these contests are about GETTING high scores on pictures or about GIVING high scores?

Anyway, here is my latest GIVING score:
Stats: You have rated 14 of 55 images (25%) in this challenge.
You have given an average score of 6.4286

I cannot go through the other ones. Honestly, I tried. :)

Both. Neither. It's what you want from it. For some people it isn't even about the scores at all.

"Four scores and seven years ago ..." my average vote received was just about the same as it is now. ;-)
