I just dared to submit my first photo ever to 1x how long does it usually take to find out if you have been rejected?
03/11/2011 11:17:17 PM · #2182
Rejected:

After it was rejected I read somewhere that zoo shots aren't allowed, so that is probably a main reason. And the usual photo quality stuff of course.

I'm assuming none, since this is the "rejects" thread...

Yeah, I guess you're right. I shouldn't complain, I have had a couple accepted in the last few months, although most of mine are being rejected these days. But it's not a reason to complain. Sorry!

Just submitted my first photo so I should have something to post here soon
03/12/2011 11:12:55 AM · #2188
I am confused how it works. I submitted one photo few weeks ago. It is showing under "Not published". Is this all they do when they reject it or do you get a message?

Yes. That is a reject straight from the screener. If you slip one past the screener, and it is rejected, it may, or may not, have member comments, but it will reflect having been screened by the members.

Just checked it - they accepted 194 of your photos! Any other DPCer got more accepted?

Well, I can join the club. I only tried this one so far:
03/12/2011 11:32:42 AM · #2192

The other I entered at the same time was accepted. I was surprised, since this one was (in my mind) the stronger image.

I think that's the largest number of publishes for a DPCer. There are photographers who have more than 194 published, but they're not DPCers. Those 194 are over time, I was one of the earlier subscribers to 1X (started when it still was OnExposure).

Things have changed. Having publishes in the past should diminish the hurt of being rejected over and over in the last 6 months to a year, but it doesn't. It isn't only the 4 posted pictures but many others. But, complaining and asking for sympathy doesn't do me or anyone else any good.

Sorry I ever spoke up in this thread.

The 1X crew attempts to process all submitted images within 1 week's time, but mine have been taking up to 2 weeks to get rejected. I think they're likely overworked and burned out.

Thanks, now I can relax and quit checking so often.

No need to apologize. This thread is not about complaining, and it's not about accumulating rejections, as some at 1x may think. It's a place to post our rejected images. Simple as that.

Can I ask a general question about 1x? Apart from the recognition and place on CV are there any other reasons to strive to get accepted?

Yes. The number of views and the contacts that come out of those views. With contacts I mean both getting to know people and sharing about photography and becoming friends (not in the Facebook sense, but in the sense of people interested in similar things), and also contacts from people wanting to purchase prints, or contacts from magazines for interviews/publications, and similar things. The number and variety of views/contacts you get from 1X-published work can't be beat.

The other things is that 1X is planning to open a prints shop, where published images would go for sale as prints directly through 1X (kinda like Artflakes or art.com or other similar places). So getting published has the advantage of potentially being able to sell prints directly through them.

But personal satisfaction is the big one.

LevT recently had a request to publish a set of images in their magazine. They found him at 1x.
