I like the color version of this better personally, but with the title, the b&w works better. Very nicely done. |

To Justine and Heida,
These images are excellent in colour and B/W..but I feel that in your image Justine, the eyes are given that bit more emphasis because of the contrast and this gives the image more bite.
While that is not an issue with your image Heida,I feel it is more about toning down distractions like the background and the colours of the shirt which then gives the face the prominence it deserves.
Great images both.

I agree with Gordon on both counts, both versions are very good on their own.
I just really love the B&W treatment you used Heida. It really adds a roughness to the image. You were right to go with it. |

Here are a few of mine that I took.
Entry
Outtakes

heida~I like the colored version better. Great shot BTW!
justine~I like the b/w better. Just out of curiousity, did you try sepia tone?
Olympian~I like yours in b/w too. Awesome shot!
jenesis~He is a cutie. I also like the color shot. Those blue eyes are beautiful. Maybe take some of the red out of the shot because his cheeks look really red.

I am really impressed with mag cover revisited challenge! Great work by all who submitted! It must be my highest marks for any challenge. I have amended my evil ways and my lowest mark for the last week is a 5, I do not give anything lower. Cudos to all DPC`ers

Sonja, I really liked the one you entered. It's very sweet. But the one without the boa is great! I love the composition of it and her expression is priceless! :)
As for my color version, I agree with you about the red in the cheeks. That was one of the pushing factors for submitting the b&W version. Thanks for the feedback. :) |

Just checked out most of the challenge and, yes, it really was an excellent one.
It is also nice to see such different humanity well-captured by the photographers.
All those natural expressions are heart warming. |

jenesis, I too like the color version better.
The rest all look better in B&W,IMHO.
I too had a hard time choosing, especially since I had two different sessions with two of my daughters. I will try to get them up for comparison. Hopefully I can learn something about what others might have liked better.

Sorry about the lack of focus on my entry ‘D’Arcy’. It was a last minuet entry Sunday night and I guess I just wasn’t paying attention. The light was bad, and the endless comments about the couch made me realize it also was a mistake. Thanks for all the comments they really help.
Here̢۪s another version I think is a little better.

John, I do think this one is better. I liked the pose of the one you entered more, but this one is better technically speaking. |

Great outtakes. Now that's an artist who will do anything to learn his craft better. Very expressive face.

Just realized a mistake I made. I wasn't mindful of some settings in PS-CS when I originally edited the my entry and submitted it. Anyone else see any difference on their monitors:
Submission:
Edited Version:
Yeah, kinda thought so.

Wow Kevin, that's a pretty big difference. But if I hadn't seen the edited version I wouldn't have even noticed anything wrong with your entry... not that it was wrong but that is definetly a difference. |

I thought it was a great challenge. I really enjoyed getting comments on the photo I submitted. I was going for a sort of trick on the eyes where it would look like I was wearing my boots on my hands (they were actually on my feet of course). I got a lot of comments about the boots/gloves. I even got a hat! lol. It was a lot of fun to take the photo but I wish I had been able to get the pose I wanted without my foot slipping. It's a self portrait and I kept having the get in position in only 10 seconds all up on the stairs. It was the best I came up with out of about 20 shots. I knew my shot wouldn't score high because it isn't traditional portrait photography, specifically that the focus is not on the eyes. There are tons of great portrait shots in the challenge that people should be proud of. Keep up the good work everyone! |
