I think we all moaned and groaned over that silly challenge. However, how inspirational to see you change the "moan and groan" tune to a big successful cheer instead! A beautiful photo...congrats on your publication!

My latest reject is coming out of voting tonight with, possibly, a 7-score, though it just dipped below 7 for the first time all week this morning.

Congrats Lev!

I've had a handful more rejects. I was looking to get a website together so i thought i'd use 1x as they seem good for photo stuff. I've started to make quite a few sales as prints and licenced images so thought i'd get a bit more professional. The added bonus is that i can fit in 5 rejects a week now instead of 1. I won't clutter up this thread too much with them though!

Site here...

Thank you guys! you should look at my "rejected" section, it is plentiful :). here is the latest member

[The secret of my recent success is rather simple: I signed up for the 2010 1x book, paid $99 for it, and became a bronze member for 3 months, so I also get 5 slots a week for now :)]

This is the latest one they rejected:

Given that my 2 acceptances have had this sort of surreal smoothness to them, I had hoped this might pass as well. Would have beennice having a ribbon and a 1x on the same image...

Congrats Lev!!!!

Not that it compares in any way to any of the other great pictures accepted/rejected by 1X (of course:-), I still tried this one in my immaturity:

It was under consideration for about 2 days. Then I got a rejection, and no comments. I also submitted it for critique, and this is what I got:

"...the only slight issue I have is the 2 blurred orange shapes in the top left hand corner of the image offer a slight distraction from an otherwise simple but striking composition."

"...there's something that doesn't convince me... I just see two beautiful coloured spots on a neutral background."

:-):-)

Clive, enjoyed your site. Your daughter is beautiful.

I'm so happy to have Lev on our DPL squad!

My June rejects, self-explanatory, but I thought the Joshua Tree had a chance.

And as Robert mentioned earlier, throw it at the wall...an unexpected image off my Holga.

Oo oo I've been rejected too!

I suspect I made rejection too easy by neglecting to produce versions that took advantage of the larger size that 1x allows, so I'll have a second go at both and see if the results are any different.

This isn't a DPC Challenge. Can you do a good clone job on that and resubmit?

With all the rejections from 1x of photos that ribbon here, which site has the better voters or eye on a photo?

My opinion: you can't tell a damn thing from the relationship between 1x rejections and DPC ribbons.

There is no better, only different.

Then why is there a thread in here that has been running for months and people moaning about getting rejected from this site. Obviously, there must be something to it people want. Why else would they keep submitting photos wanting approval and not rejection? You can still vote and critique photos there. What's the difference?

Yea you can, dpc ribbons say many people like your photo, and 1x rejections say they don't. Like I said, better voters or eye on photos?

No you can't. 1x and DPC are completely different things entirely. One works as an online gallery with a very specific style and concept and accepts images that fit in with that aesthetic and the other is an open photography competition site. Two different beasts.

Also, i don't think anyone on this thread is 'moaning' about not being accepted there. Just flagging it up in the name of friendly conversation really. It's interesting and fun. I don't think anyone is specifically creating images to fit 1x, more that they are submitting stuff they feel may make the grade there. Not a big deal really.

As clive mentioned the two sites are very different. If you're going to try and compare the two the only way would be to compare free study entries with what gets accepted at 1x, IMO. That's because all too often when you win a themed challenge it's because your photo conveyed the challenge themed the best and not because it was great photography per se. That said, how many rejections have people received on free study entries that did well? And by that I mean very high 6s or 7+ scores.

Yeah, I've had three that ribboned and were accepted at 1x, one rejected ribbon, one rejected HM.

Clive said it best.

My only 7+ FS is on 1x. I submitted two other FS, both 6.6+, both rejected. Lev is likely a good example for this; I'm sure many of his 30+ published images were free study entries. You?
06/18/2010 06:18:01 PM · #1848
All my accepted 1x images weren't entered here. My heart's more in my 1x submissions (when I make them).
