Original eyes of the AG. I looked at most of the entries and see very similar eyes .. that's what made that photo famous. :)

wow, I wish the angel would visit me...
Please, people, remember that the photo does not have to be an exact copy of the original. The challenge description says you can have your own take on it.
As to so many of the same picture, it was pretty obvious that it would happen. Most of the famous photos not only have people in them, but have multiple people in them. Most DPCers don't have models. When looking through the famous photos, there were very few that could be done with one (or less) models.

Saker, the problem with these shots, IMO, is that many seemed focused, not so much on reprodicing the shot, but on making an approximation and then going crazy on making the eyes green. I haven't looked at the photos yet, but I'd bet that some of the ones people think are fake are actually green. Green eyes can be very intense in pictures.

I counted 16 Afghan Girl copies. After viewing the images I got the feeling that DPC thinks 4 photographs are famous out of thousands. Not much in variety.
Next time let's include paintings too. I got a handful of Dali painting I would love to try to recreate photographically. |

I actually did that. In general, I didn't know about 45% of the entries. A little google, and I think they have a fairer score from me as opposed to the scores I would give them otherwise.
But then again, to expect this from all voters is like suggesting to them a change in voting etiquette, so let me stop right here:) |

whoa! I turned off the scores, but every time I go to the home page, I automatically look up in the left hand corner! I wonder how long it will take to break the habit (and how long I can leave the scores off since I still have another one in voting. :)
(I mistyped the smiley face and then corrected it. But the mistype was scary looking!)

edited to add -- it's not so scary looking anymore. Has anyone else realized that when you type in your post, it's in one font, but when it's posted it changes to a different font? When you type it in, it's in a serif font, and looks like courier (or some other equal spaced font.) But when you post, it becomes a proportional spaced, san serif font.
