Well something isn't completely clear to everyone here, Or this discussion would not be taking place. If we have 3 or 4 different understandings of the description. Then no it is not clear enough.

What's "unclear" about this?

Portray a lyric, song title, or album title from the works of Paul Simon in a photo. Title your entry the lyric, song, or album.

If it was "the works of Ludwig von Beethoven" would everything be DNMC because he never recorded it himself, or it was recorded by a whole orchestra ...?

I'd love to know the motivation of those who look for the tiniest excuse to exclude photos which would obviously fit any reasonably broad interpretation of the challenge title/description. On second thought, maybe I don't want to know -- it would just be depressing ... :-(

The works of Paul Simon or any other artist, does not have to include only things recorded by the artist. The body of works includes their work as a whole, written, performed, recorded, copyrighted, or whatever. It's the WORKS of Paul Simon. Fun Po Po are making the simplest things difficult. Sigh, this should have been an amazing challenge with tons of possibilities giving almost anyone a chance to enter. Now I'm afraid many won't enter because of this.

I think whether he wrote it, sang it, copyrighted, or just recorded it - does not matter. If it is associated with Paul Simon it is game. Certainly every S&G song should be valid.

Sounds about right to me. :-)

I agree with this too... and on a side note, its always obvious which shots were taken and then a title just shoehorned on to fit the challenge. Honestly, I don't vote those photos down on that merit, but they never seem to score as well when the challenge is over. So I think its best to come up with the idea with the song title, or lyric...etc... then go and shoot your shot. I already know what I'm going to do and I know that it will probably be passed over too quickly by voters, but I'm fine with that because its a shot that will mean allot to me... I think its obvious by my past performances, I don't shoot for the voters...LOL...

Yup, That is exactly the point I was trying to make with my post on Page 2 of this thread. But not everyone will read between the lines or our posts on the topic for that matter. Which is why the Descriptions should be more specific.

Unbelievable thread. Awesome topic matto couldn't be more clear. And we wonder why people leave or do more side challenges these days. I'm going to do my best to come up with a very well known S&G song or title. Score it as you be. Tired of the bull around some times, the side challenges are getting more appealing every day.......ace

Whoa! I totally missed that one. This from the same person who said earlier...

Tell that to those who only read challenge titles. Those are the ones I'm afraid of, the DNMC police.

Now who's playing DNMC police?

I don't see the problem here, it's really not that difficult to figure out. There's several links to music that Paul Simon has been involved with as a musician, singer, and song writer. If he's involved with the song in any of those capacities then what's the problem? Sigh....

Cheesus H. Christ! If someone cannot form a preliminary image of a shot in their head based on just his solo song titles alone(original link), they have no business being here entering a photo "challenge." All this semantic crap about who, what, when, or where is so damn childish. This is essentially a free challenge due to the enormous amount of material available. Paul Simon isn't a one-hit-wonder artist. Look up some lyrics and get to shooting.

Oh my.

Paul Simon Songs/Lyrics

Note that this does not say "Paul Simon Performances" - but songs/lyrics. This not only implies authorship, but pretty much defines it as such. ANY FREAKIN' SONG WHERE SIMON HAS A PART IN THE LYRICS. OK? He sang it, he wrote it, he copyrighted it - ANY of the above.

I AM HEREBY DECLARING IT SO!@!!!!!!~!!@@###@ THIS INCLUDES LYRICS FOR SIMON (note the name is even included in the group name) AND GARFUNKEL SONGS.

(Edit to add this does not include lyrics for Carly Simon songs unless Paul Simon wrote them. Also note that the majority of people will be familiar, probably moreso, with Simon and Garfunkel songs. And that only the truly pedantic will look up every title to make sure it is Paul Simon's. So get over it already.)

Well, thank God that's settled. Now, if you could contact all the voters and let them know you've laid down the law, we're all good to go.

I think Deb has covered all the bases now.

I still want a country music themed challenge. Way overdue.

And just for the record, "they call me Baby Driver, and once upon a pair of wheels, hit the road and I'm goooonnnee...." is SO stuck in my head, so I'm posting it here so it can be stuck in your head too! (1969 by the way.)

But what's your number? ;-)

A funny story: "Sometimes I finish an entire melody with no lyrics worth keeping, in which case I go into the studio, put down a musical track, go home and take my time over the lyrics.... Cecelia, on the other hand, was recorded on a home tape recorder. We were all sitting around the livingroom, making up rhythms by pounding on a piano bench and hand clapping, and the lyrics and melody were added later to this percussion track."

"...diamonds on the soles of her shoes...." is the one stuck in my head this afternoon.

I saw him do this live. He's amazing in concert. And not a whole lot taller than me, if at all. So you have this REALLY little itty bitty white guy and a whole cast of tall skinny black guys, and it was indeed awesome.

Now I really must think of something I can shoot. :-)

The fact that it's been discontinued is probably the only thing that will keep this from being the Kondachrome challenge!
