:-) :)

The core concept of that argument is that God didn't make them gay (queer, homosexual whatever you want to call it)that they made a choice to be that way. Some may have, but very few. There is a bit of nurture in a willingness to come out of the closet, but there is a whole lot of nature in the percentage of a society that is homosexual. Heck even animals, who we don't believe make choices, have a certain percentage of their population which are homosexual. The long term double blind twin studies seem to show that genetics are much more likely to determine homosexuality than how you are raised. It would seem that being queer is slightly more of a choice than eye color, but not much more.

As for what is and isn't "God's fault"; in my theology, however people are, that's how God made them. In deciding which behaviors are his and which are not, you put yourself above God, judging him and his choices for his creations. I for one, am not worthy of such a judgment.

common guys i am hardly ever serious. I wish we had fomarting for joking. So that fonts would change and make it look like person is joking and is not serious.

You guys can continue, i am fine with gays. No problems.

I second that! Can't we just use italics or put like a little tag? Kind of kills the humor though I'd say.

i tend to do something like this now a days. But to tell that it is a joke mostly kills the fun.

Yes, but when you said, my brother is getting married, it was assumed it was to a woman. Not another man.

Now we have to specify (along with the state) what being married is. Between a man and a woman (being in California).

So in short, "No dear brother, you can't get married. You must have misunderstood the meaning." Is that what this message conveys? "Have to be specific" no we don't. Why? So you can exclude people from a right you take for granted. Even your own brother? That is just cold.

In the 108 pages this thread has made, I missed the discussion. Please point me to the page if this has been explained before (no need to rehash).

What right does my brother have to marry another man?

If you don't see it and its your own brother. You are a lost cause. What right do you have to say he doesn't have that right?

It's against the status quo.

I'm sure after 108 pages, this has been brought up before.

status quos change, and aren't rights.

Yes, and soundly thrashed on so many fronts that it should be embarrassing to state it.

It was the status to own black people.

It was the status quo to deny women the right to vote.....

You getting the picture here?

If you have so little love for your brother that you cannot wish him the best regardless of who he chooses for a partner, you are seriously part of a big problem.

Three weeks of quiet! Let's break the silence.

How does it feel to be gay?

Yep. Pretty much.

Hey, I thought the local middle school already put a restraining order on you!

Ach, you silly people. Flat tops were popular years and years and years ago. I think only Arnold, of California, still sports one. Or maybe Zxaar thinks he's a pumpkin head.

Another interesting read.

A Moral Crossroads For Conservatives

What do conservatives offer in marriage's stead? Silence.

That's a powerful piece of work, mousie. It's so hard for me to imagine anyone arguing with that, sigh...

That's why I keep posting links! Perhaps someday the cognitive dissonance of the right will become too much to bear, and they'll simply give up.

If not, there's always attrition.

That's the big debate on gay media, these days... how long to wait for attrition. Do we try to repeal Prop 8. in 2010 or 2012? It's a rather heated discussion, with three main camps:

- You can never 'wait' for justice, act now
- Wait until winning is incredibly likely, then act
- Don't wait, but if you lose, just try again in two years (both 2010 & 2012)

I tend to lean towards the "keep revisiting it every election until you win" camp, but I'm no politician.

Just to hilight my second point a bit, and refer back to the thread topic...

IMO, The most interesting aspect of the equal rights debate these days is the internal mechanics of deciding who gets to speak for the gays, and when. Rights organizations are fighting for the same goals, but doing so with methods at cross-purposes.

It's really fascinating, as far as political calculations go. I welcome anyone interested in government in general to follow along.

Civil Union with legal rights. Just don't call in "Marriage". I'm telling you, it will be a long time coming to get past the marriage term with conservatives and the older generation for quite some time. Marriage is between one man and one woman.
