Can you do overlays in Photoshop Elements Vs. 5 or above? I don't know if I understand the technique, or how it is done. Is there a tutorial or another thread that really explains how some of these can be created? I am not participating because I haven't got a dp account that I can load photos, but I am interested in trying this on my own. Anybody willing to hold my hand? I do review Judy's work alot, because I love the combinations she makes, but never could figure out how she did it.

I have PSE7 don't know if you receive their magazine or not but they have a publication each month, in the March/April issue it address overlays...with the encouragement and instruction received from joynim I was able to wk through the process...so my answer to you is yes we can do this too...I am willing to help you "stumble" through this...as I am learning as well...but was delighted to learn that I could actually do this in Elements....

I am downloading the free trail version of PS 7 as we speak. How do I work this? Will you post your instructions as you create the pics? I will be posting my images that I try on my flickr acct, which can be reached from my dp page. I will also look at joynim's instructions. Thanks so much.

YAY - what a terrific group so far. Please, please continue everyone. I rarely enter challenges because I can't edit the way I want, and it be legal, so these side challenges are what keep me going. I might even break out of the box and do something other than my dog and flowers. :~P

Testing
Link to Overlay Photo

I added an old paper filter first, then added a layer called oak and played with opacities. Finally I added a black fill layer to darken and then brushed an ochre color and a gray color in the sky using a faux rolled rag brush.

Is this falling into the catefory of overlay? Need to know if I am on the right track.

I have elements 4 and you can do overlays in that version. Full blown PS is definitely not needed for this technique.

This is a great tutorial Overlay Tutorial, very simple to follow.

Thanks for the info. I will look at it and see if I can apply some of the tips in the tutorial
