Nope, about a bazillion miles the other direction - Saunders Country Farm and Critters on the 44. |

I'll bet those scoring the highest are generally getting those votes BECAUSE they're showing the wild aspect. (you might be saying the same thing)

If I was feeling down and read this thread I think I'd have quite entering challenges.
1. DNMC does not warrant a DQ
2. Domesticated animals have been named as excluded animals - Zoo's, Parks etc were not.
Oh, and as for shooting wildlife in the African bush whilst it might take longer to locate and 'shoot' your pray taking a decent shot in a zoo is not always as easy as some knockers make out.
Stats: You have rated 159 of 159 images (100%) in this challenge.
You have given an average score of 5.9686.
Thats more than 0.5 above my average - some excellent images and I'm willing to bet my sole 10 vote went to a zoo shot ;)

Not to mention in a zoo, you have to deal with the fences/fake man made crap/etc...

Don't forget the annoying kids with the pushy parents making you get outta the way because their kiddo wants to see Tony the Tiger. :P

You have given an average score of 6.2278.
Well, I've done my part. Some great stuff, some mediocre stuff, some not so great stuff. OMG, it's a DPC Challenge :)

I let my kids loose and they clear out a nice space for me! I was at the San Diego Zoo the day prior to the challenge anouncement, so one my zoo shots may end up in the free study again.
My non-zoo shot is doing quite well, but not well enough for a top ten in this challenge.

Probably. I'll bet those scoring the highest are generally getting those votes BECAUSE they're showing the wild aspect. |
We'll see but judging by the last results I'd say it's not really needed so long as the quality of light is there and the up close and personal factor is there. Whatever the animal is doing or not doing seems to be a secondary aspect to this.

There were no zoo shots in this challenge. None. Was a photo of a tiger someone's exotic pet shot in a back yard? Is that elephant a domesticated working animal in India? Was that innocent looking gray squirrel actually shot in a zoo? Is that gnu secretly old? There is absolutely no way to know. Even with a special rule, there is nothing recorded in EXIF that would indicate whether an animal was shot in a zoo, so if everyone said they took a shot in the wild, we would have no way to prove otherwise for DQ purposes and the issue is a moot point. All you can do is make assumptions, which WILL lead to embarrassments as demonstrated above. |
Wow Shannon, you are now pointing out what YOU think is an embarrassment? I love you too man!

And y'all should be getting mad at me, not Langdon, though I only suggested that we have the wildlife challenge in the fall as opposed to the dead of winter. |
But what does it matter? aren't zoos open all year? hahahahahahahaha |
Actually, the small zoo located only 15 minutes from me by car is open only May-September. Too many of their animals are delicate exotics that wouldn't last in the cold.
And Shannon scalvert is right, everyone. This whole thing has gotten wildly out of hand - barely into the 2nd day of voting and this thread is 14 pages long. Please, let's bury the hatchet, or at least bury it in the skulls of the trolls voting everyone down.
Bujanx...thanks man, I know the scores will eventually return to what they truly deserve. Still a bummer to watch em take a .8 dive though. |
The comment about the zoos being open all year was a joke. see the "hahahahaha" after it?

I think this challenge is not going to be as high as the last one. I bet you could squeeze Top 10 with that. |

I'd love to have my 6.4 back, but we'll have to see how the week plays out. Regardless, this will mostly likely be a PB. It'd have to fall a whole 0.3x to not be.

As much as I would like to see Jason proven correct, I still expect the top 10 to be 7+. Despite the entertaiment in this thread, the average voter won't care where the exotics were photographed, and there are a handful of both that I expect to finish very high (7+). |

I reckon the top 3 or 4 will all be 7+ scores on this one despite the ongoing arguments.
Got to be honest that I got a little lost when this became all about the 'environment' and not the 'Wildlife' . .
Let's just vote on the wildlife and enjoy the wonders of nature . . well actually I'm not voting - just commenting - but you know what I mean :- ) |
