Yeah, almost every single comment I've received is quite amusing!

Immovable score seems to have stuck fast; it may not be going up but it's not going down neither, so I'm pretty happy with that! I've hit 38 comments as well.

I'm sure it will.....
just choose the MOST DPC Friendly one ;) that'll be the _SAFEST_ Bet ;) *LOL* :-D

I'm not sure any of my shots have been DPC friendly so far, hehe. Why start now? :P

It was hard choosing one shot but I think it's the best one, I'm just trying to sort out a slight overly-bright light problem and I'll be ready to submit. Are you submitting to safety or risk too?

I have that same thing with my comments... I have 54 comments now and quite a few of them complain about things that i Would have fixed if the challenge were advanced editing... oh well, that seems to happen a lot...

My score has leveled out a bit too... I have hit 322 votes... so even if there still was someone who still hasn't voted yet, even a couple of 1's or 2's would have practically no effect...

but still, I'm not posting my score anymore... every time i post it, it drops =P ... so no more posting...

yeah I know how you feel -- I think there are trolls that surf the boards and i've come to the conclusion that I'm no longer posting my score at all in these threads... i'll discuss the comments and amount of comments or thoughts about my score and give kudos to others :-) otherwise nope my score is a closed ballot! :-P

;) who else here is -VERY- tempted to reply to a comment and point out the reasoning for -why- something is the way it is in your image? I mean c'mon ppl... LOOK FOR MORE THAN A MINUTE willya?

I'd like to see a stat of "average time voters spent looking at your image before casting vote"
09/15/2008 11:31:30 PM · #131
hahaha... i almost sent someone a PM... I opened up the message box, typed up a really nasty message... i was dropping the F bomb all throughout it... then i realized that maybe i shouldn't... so i didn't sent it... That was one of my early challenges... now i'm a little more understanding... but it still drives me nuts when someones comment clearly makes no sense, and a simple one sentence reply would put them in their place...
09/15/2008 11:31:57 PM · #132
now, that would be a good stat... it should show up WITH their comment...

what gets my panties in a knot is when someone comments the complete OPPOSITE of what at least 2 other people have complimented or liked about the photo? u know? sure the element could be enhanced with advanced editing as all things can be enhanced/fixed adjusted made to fade/darken or overall just give that more "wow" factor than when you are in basic (and everything is edited -evenly & the same- )

or when someone leaves a 'eh' kind of comment and you look at their average vote given- U know what I mean ;) :-D

darn its just so tempting to comment back *bites fingernails to non-existence & goes to sleep instead...* :-D

I always find it interesting when peoples comments contradict. At least if they comment, you know what they are seeing, and even if it is wrong, you can try and see where they are coming from. Photography comes down to what you see, and what that makes you feel, and everyone has different tastes.
In terms of average vote given etc, i know some people that wuill not vote below 5, others that it is exceptionally hard to get a 10 off, and others who will give multiple 10's in a challenge. Just cause someones average vote given is low, doesn't mean that their opinions and comments are not valid either.
I recieved a PM recently from someone who I had commented their photo. It explained what they were trying to do, and was at no times abusive. I then PM's back to them. I don't have a problem getting a nice PM asking something about a comment given, even if they are disagreeing with what I wrote, and can then respond back. I will ignore any that are abusive. I won't then change the score given though. I though don't PM people that comment me.....

;) I as a rule am going to try not to comment back to people ;) -especially- during a challenge; because sure people do have diffrent views and its nice to know what they're thinking but at the same time what they're seeing perhaps upon a second or third look they would see that there is a -reason- for it... for example in another challenge that is going on I looked at an element I found distracting and then thought about it for a while...why did they leave that element in the photo its just a little shape...then I looked through the entire photo for a while longer and noticed that that same shape is repeated in larger forms through the entire image... and as I looked at it even longer I noticed that the shape that originally I found as an element that detracted from the image actually contributed in a good way to the image -- what otherwise would have disappeared as another shape if not for the angles of the element - is re-enforced...

oh I know my image is rather 'average' but there are reasons I chose the crop -- tho...I wish I went with an outtake that I liked the composition of better...

the hard thing in art is seeing through the artists eyes... why did they frame this image just so/ what are they seeing... why didn't they bump the levels more or even -less- why did they over sharpen or not sharpen enough? there is the perhaps they didnt' know factor and sure its nice to tell them what you see as a fault...but I continue to question ...if they not know it wouldn't help or do they like it as is? why didn't they chop in closer or do another take on the image? I wonder that myself frequently when I look at some of the images in voting and will from time to time comment just so- (of course there are the "WOW" ones that I don't bother commenting on sometimes and just 10'them ;) because I just kept going "wow" as I stared at the pic) - I do like to explain what as a viewer I'm seeing (and sometimes if its a great location or such I'll ask where it is or how they did it and hope that later they'll tell me and it won't be some majorly far away place that I can't ever get to ;) :-D or I'll explain what I personally would have changed about the image (checking the rule set to make sure that the person may or may not have been able to do such an edit/adjustment --ie: I would phrase it as 'this is basic or minimal editing so I understand why you couldn't do such and such but if this were advanced I'd recommend this this and this to improve this image overall in my own opinion; because of the inability to fix those things I'm not deducting any points from my vote though... and I like this this and this about the image composition/shapes/crop or I don't like this this or this about the balance/colors/etc.. ") (IE/ cropping out an airplane in a starry sky-scene...while taking the time again to really look at the image 'why is that airplane in the image -is it to symbolize man in a vast existence? or is it to show accomplishment? because the person of course could have waited another 5 min for that plane to pass when taking the image; or chosen another outtake... why did they choose this one? etc... I visit the images I've voted on several times through a challenge after I vote the initial vote and really look at the photos as much as I can in order to hopefully not miss a shot and rate it as a 5 when I should have given it a 6 or 7 you know? and on the other note scan through the ones I've given higher scores to and make sure that they do deserve the score and that I wasn't just being generous ;) most people on DPC after all are artists and looking at something in particular they're not just trying to take a 'snapshot' they have the desire to create an artistic photograph/image be it inflicting a lot of hot spots into their image or a lot of dark abyss like space :-) actually I've even learned a little something from the images I've disliked IE: this person liked what they saw and the composition/shapes etc... I like to look back at really old challenges too sometimes (IE: looking at the patterns of challenges /who has entered what challenges etc (there was a small challenge that only 7 people were in at one point) :-) ;) its always interesting to see the variety of comments "I like such and such" and "I don't like such and such it distracts me from the subject" "I wish such and such was lighter/darker or more of the focus" "I'd rather see this image without such and such and (perhaps a blade of grass or such) being focused on more" ;) we have people who prefer droplets/macros and or flora or bugs/ we have people who prefer people portraits or specifically just artistic shots/ we have people who want to try everything once and people who try to think outside of the box every time ;) :-D -- perhaps I can see where they're coming from but on the same page- are they seeing where I'm coming from and are they actually taking the time to -try- to see where I'm coming from? :-)

;) just some thoughts on the subject

I've given up, my score isn't budging! I'm concentrating on the next challenge haha. I'm currently submitted to this one, numbers, safety and long exposure. One of them surely has to rate well, by law of averages! Probably not though.

Just finished voting - without doubt the worst set of images I have seen on this site for ages.

09/16/2008 06:27:58 PM · #143
Well, there were some that really stand out as amazing images... i'm not referring to mine... , but yea... I think that some people just submitted something in a rush because they saw how few entries there were and they thoughts that the would have good odds...

Sigh Yes, we know, we stink! LOL! We're all eagerly awaiting rollover to get this embarrassment over with! I don't blame you for the low vote - I deserve it. :-(

Well, I think everyone did their best for a damn hard challenge. I had several ideas, none of which were very good and my entry isn't up to much either (bad lighting I think) but I tried.

I just want this one over with too, I'm sick of updating and seeing no change. Not had any new comments for a coupla days either. Wonder who has the highest comment count?
