Post your outtakes from the Boats challenge here.

I should know better than to go out shooting at 6 pm sunday evening. Last minute upload and my score paid for it. At least it came in on the + side of 5.

Entry:

Same image, but cropped tighter and enhanced to bring out some more details:

Other outtakes (some which I may have used but had missed rollover with them):

Not quite an outtake as I couldn't take the picture until the day after the challenge started but here is what I would have liked to enter!!

The outtake, I'm still not sure which one I prefer

This is what I almost submitted:

I couldn't be a photojournalist and report on stuff like this. I intended this to be a tribute to the firemen and Coast Guard who worked so hard to find the boy, but all the while I was there I felt like a paparazzo. I tried very hard to keep a very low profile, to not even be seen, if possible, but regardless, I was an intruder, reporting merely for my own purposes.

Sad couple of days. This is the Paducah Fire Department rescue crew, dragging the bottom along the bank where a 14 year old boy was lost. It was just a casual wade along the foot of Broadway that got out of hand. One of his friends that tried so hard to catch him and drag him back had to be pulled back by another, or she would have been lost, too.

I think it's a decent photograph, and gives the feeling of the time accurately. But a submission to a casual on-line photo contest? Hmmmm. Not so sure about that. What do you think?

So, as I had my 5 year old grandson over for the Memorial Day weekend, you got this instead:

And everybody LOVED that! HaHaHa! Ugh.

I struggled with which one to enter.

Karen, I like your entry much better than the outtakes, but it is interesting/fun how the ice is shaped so much like a boat/ship. :-)

I can see why! They're both very nice photos. The one you entered has more emphasis on the boat. If the boat was a tad more visible from a side view in the second, that would've been the hands-down choice.

This would have been my entry if there had been anything interesting about the sky. I liked the very early morning light and the reflections.

I got a few comments about a shot w/ only the sunken boat.

I like the composition and subject of your outtake MUCH better than what you submitted, but the HDR is over the top a bit IMO.

Hmmm. As is, I would have leaned toward the outtake with the reflections and more dramatic lighting. A minor softening to the one you entered may have done a little different.

Hope you don't mind. I took liberty with this and applied a soft filter to it. [thumb]685057[/thumb]

Ok. Now it's my turn. :-)

Outtakes ==> - "Licensed", and - "Eco-Green Power"

The thing that decided it for me on the entry was the strong diagonals and the sign as an additional point of interest. Really wanted to use the green one, but the water was really dirty but was hard to tell what it was (looked like a processing or noise issue).

Tough one Wildcard ... both a very very good... I like the intensity of the mast reflection in your submission though.

Had a hard time deciding. These were ones I was happy with as well...

Tough call, I love the one you entered but the outtake takes my breath away, it's a stunning shot.

Guess it's a good thing I didn't use the outtakes...they're not generating much enthusiasm. :-)

I could see both of those in print as a set on the wall to support an appropriately themed atmosphere. The entry was stronger for the challenge IMO.
