Day 14

I'm slowly catching up on comments. My daughter is in the hospital, so I'm dealing with all that.

Hi All -

Just wanted to drop a note to say that I am really grateful for all of your comments and support this month on my portraits. I sort-of just jumped-in to this (these are shots from my first two shoots ever) and it's waaaaaaaay out of my comfort zone (ok, it was way out, not so much anymore) and I was plenty nervous posting some of the images. The feedback has been terrific and I'm finding that I really like taking portraits (of all kinds, not just nudes) and I hope that you'll keep up the candor in your comments, it is invaluable.

I also want to state something for the "record" and that is that nothing was going on between the model(s) and me. While I'll take the suggestions that there was as a compliment to the model on her ability to play the part, and my ability to get her comfortable in the shoot, truth be told the models were booked for an hour and off we went. Didn't know her before, haven't spoken with her since. That was it, totally business.

Thanks again - I've got some great shots lined-up for the rest of the month and I really hope you continue to comment and I hope my comments are proving useful to you. I'm loving all the work you are doing and learning quite a bit myself. DPC is truly a great site!

Thanks for the wonderful comments.....

I like to ask a favor, as I like to add an overlay to my sepia image above.
I am really blind when it comes to overlays, and really have only done one, and forgotten how to do it, re the steps one takes in photoshop. Can someone help me please.....

I like an antique or a crazy crack overlay as SandyP suggested.

Hey Roz if you read this, I am sure you can help me.

Just email me here sherryljohnston@dodo.com.au with an overlay, and the steps one can take. Please let me know who's overlay it is, as I will make sure I thank them, along with the image.

Day 6 is farthest I got, a situation came up that is sucking up nearly all my time, since I went to day 6, I will vote 100% on all pics up to day 6, seems fair. Sorry for dropping out, but I barely have time for the regular challenges. I will deffinatley give it another shot sometime.

Day 2
I'll keep practicing with the new lens. So ... expect more and more macro and zoom shots.
This is a weed growing just in front of my rusty old crooked washing line post. BORING ... but practice.

Day 13

I just wanted to say that entering in this little photographic adventure has been a great experience and very worthwhile! I've enjoyed looking at all of your images, reading your comments, and I feel like we've got a little community here this month. It's been very nice! :-)

OK, day 13. I know that this is similar to a shot that I already posted, but I like the first crop, which is different than the last one I posted! (getting by on a technicality!) I posted the second for some advice. When I was adjusting levels I couldn't find a way to do it without creating those bands of swirly area on the right side of the clouds. I'm very a much a photoshop novice, so maybe there is something I could do to get a smoother transition?

Steve - it's lovely to watch someone really jump into their passion. I never thought for a moment there was anything going on with the models - well done if you've managed to capture that - SMILE!

I love side challenges too for the spirit they foster - well done you for asking for and accepting constructive criticism - may you grow and enjoy every moment - Lisa

Day 14

Will catch up on some of the commenting as a little behind!!
05/14/2008 09:03:18 AM · #424
Haven't been able to post or comment due to a hectic mother's day weekend in addition to all the Palm Bay, Florida wild fires. Hope to never experience the fires again. That was scary. My kids had to be evacuated from their school and it took my husband over an hour to gather them up. We had fires all around us but we were fortunate not to receive any damage. Please pray for the folks who had to evacuate and lost their homes. I am hoping they catch the moron who started these. I was amazed how fast the fires moved. I have some photos I took with my daughters P & S that I will post when I get the opportunity. As I am writing this I hear more fires are still popping up. Both my kids are still out of school because of the smoke and possible damage to their school. We lost power for a day but I hear others are going to be without power for a few more days and one of my daughters friends may have lost her home. This is crazy.
