Originally posted by aguapreta: All right, I am going to repost this since often different people log in at different times. And, just looking for a bit of feedback, so.... here is my question for the next three days.
Here is the idea - if we focus on style of B&W over the next month, it will help us to develop that area of our photography, both in taking pictures and in commenting (and recognizing) what we like and want to achieve. Do we want a theme for the month of March B&W images? Here are some options (and someone may have other ideas).
1) Street Photography
2) Textures
3) Silhouettes
4) Portraits
5) Landscapes
6) Family
7) Children
8) Nope, just keep on the way it is (Free Study in B&W)
9) Some other idea
Now, you can post your ideas here, but I will count PM's with ideas. And, of course, if you decide that you do not want to follow the theme, that is fine. please continue to post and comment.
Any other thoughts or ideas, let me know. I would love to have your feedback. |
I like things the way they are. e301 said it very well, "Trying to find one half-decent black and white image per week is prooving a nice challenge of itself." |

Like it the way it is. Another time I'd be interested in focusing on different conversion techniques and maybe how one's camera does shooting BW - though I guess the latter would be for jpeg people like me.
As well, BW is sort of a theme in itself, probably the best one going. |

I also like the current format, but maybe it would be fun to have a special theme once a month. Or, it could be occasionally in addition to our regular submissions with some notice in advance.
I have to say that I'm really enjoying this side challenge. For the first time since I was into film photograph, I'm actually going out looking for good black and white photo opportunities. Also, it seems like we have a great group of people here...should be a very enjoyable year. |

After two days of comments and post, it is pretty clear that B&W is a strong enough theme to stand on and there is no need to make monthly sub themes.
Thanks for the comments and thoughts - so, keep on keeping on!

I like it the way it is as well...but might consider a self imposed theme at some point during the year.

It would be nice to see the specs in the comment box or settings of the camera on all the shots when you click to view them. It is a good way to teach others. |

That, along with any special pp technique used.

I too support the request for camera and pp details. Having recently switched from Irfanview to the Gimp, I somewhat at sea with all the possibilities, not to mention the order in which to deploy them.
Still behind on comments, though continually impressed by what's on offer. |

This is an outtake from the leading lines challenge.
ETA. Behind on commenting, did try to catch up a bit earlier in the week, but work took over. Will try to catch up again at the weekend.

Week 9
This photo is of Eagle Peak very near where I live. Eagle Peak is the one shrouded in clouds. I took this last Sunday after it had rained all day. The sun finally broke though late in the afternoon, and was from behind me. Sorry about posting another "sky" photo, but the weather didn't allow me to get much photography in this weekend.

Is this an open challenge to anyone (members of DPC) or is this an invitation only? If it's open I would like to submit the following:
If it is an invitation only, then please disregard the above image. I would however appreciate constructive comments from anyone willing to provide them.

I'm such a slaker. Not only did I not post last week, I forgot about this week and I haven't commented. I should be publicly flogged.
Here's a photo I took and processed for the Slice of Life side. In lieu of an original one for this thread, I present it here. |

Make that 2 Dittos. Themes can have the effect of making photos a little contrived. I really find it refreshing to have the whole world open for black and white photography during the week. I love being able to just "see" something and know its something we can share here. If there were themes -- it would be too much like the challenges. I'm for leaving it open too.
