I cheated a bit and used this one in color in the slice of life too.

While leaving from Tay's appointment I caught this train hauling coal. I quickly got into the car to get my camera and started clicking away. I would have rather caught the full train car versus half the car but I couldn't help that a embankment was in the way. I knew I wouldn't have time to get to where the embankment ended before the train ended.

Most interesting to compare with the colour version. Here, the snow on the trees really pops.

I like the framing provided by the trees and they looks great. I wasn't sure what the train was until I read you description though.

I think is cool, the trees pop from the picture giving this a Rudoplh the Red Nose Raindeer movie look, a 3-d feel.

It may be my eyes after a long day at work but this looks a little soft (may be your post processing?) Think I agree with Deb about preferring the colour version and actually think its a neat idea to submit the same shot in 2 side challenges - not cheating at all :

I like how you have processed this. The train has an old grungy feel to it that is enhanced by the processing. I love snow pictures too . . .since it is so non-existant in Texas.

This is one of those instances where I think I actually prefer the color. For some reason, the color seems a bit more "alive" where the B&W seems a bit lifeless, if that makes sense.

Something about the whole image looks like a stage scene - I think it is the luminosity of the snow reflecting light where there is normally shadows. Well done.
