Darn cold out there - and I'm very tired, but there's one of my photos from tonight.
Not the greatest photo - but it was really quite interesting to watch the progression from 'regular' moon, through partial eclipse into the total eclipse. Then I came in to warm up - it's -13C out there! |
Beats what I got, Lea! Nice job. :) And it's only -3C here.

I like Melethia's idea about a Challenges Not Entered folder in the portfolio. I love shooting for the challenges. They give me inspiration. Sometimes when I think there is no way I can come up with an idea or image for a challenge, I wake up in the morning with a brain storm.
As much as we say scores don't matter, I still enjoy high scores more than low ones. :P
But if it weren't for the challenges, I wouldn't be participating here, and I wouldn't have broadened my photographic horizons the way I have this past year and a half. I have learned so much here.
Sometimes the scores don't reflect that progress, but I know it's there. I look at my shots that I loved two years ago, and I can definitely see my progress. Some of the old shots are hanging on the walls at home. Just today I asked my husband if he thought I should replace them with newer ones.
Now this is important. He said no. He loves those old shots, because they were my best ones then, and they are the ones that inspired me to go further, and learn more, and strive for greater perfection.
So that's it. That's why I will continue to shoot for the challenges regardless of the scores. But I still like the higher scores the best. |

I attempted the eclipse photos, but I found out that a) it was really freakin cold b) my tripod head does not allow tilting back as far as I needed it to & c) it was really freakin cold!
I am not happy with these at all, but for what it is worth:

I hope that I do better Dec 21 2010 and that it is warmer...or that I am somewhere warmer...

Oh, another thing that reached me today is a laptop my boss got me. I've never had a laptop before, it's most exciting :D
(though the things I'm looking forward to are along the lines of checking email without getting out of bed, and editing photos on trains, so not very work related at all... but still...) |

trolls....began at 5.5 yesterday...
What do you guys think of these ideas: only allowed to vote/comment ONCE, no going back to change your vote; and voting privileges issued to newbies only they have entered three challenges. |

We could have an electoral college.

Don't you remember you are supposed to be the good cop? and overwhelm us with your charm or at least offer a soda and cigarette. |

Um, I think people give more well-thought out votes if they've looked at an image more than once and gone back to review it? And that it should be appreciated?
And that we want people to vote, and should appreciate them taking the time to judge and vote on images? (rather than making it exclusive in any way)
And that too many people spend too much time complaining about voting and trolls on DPC. And that people are entitled to like or not like things, and vote accordingly.
Just in my opinion, of course.
*psychologically prepares for vague but ominous threats for generating animosity* |

I go back and bump a whole bunch up after I finish voting. I don't think I'd want to do the "once only" thing. I'll often go back through and realize I was cranky when voting part of a challenge and fix my crankiness. :-) |
