better than the 5.58 it dropped too. Dangit, I was pretty sure this shot would at least score above a six.

I am in. Mine is really very unDPC-like entry and I probably had inkling to what my score would be even before I entered. But as I said in my notes in my entry, I love the shot and this is why it is in.

I'm sooooooooo in! I'm a ringer for a 5.3-5.7 in my Free Studies. I do particularly like mine as it's a favorite haunt for me.

You know we are at opposite ends, i find it quite easy to cross 6 in free studies. For me the topic based challenges difficult to get by, for you free studies are difficult.
But more important thing is to go with what our heart says.

There's plenty of room guys - I've added you to the list.

Zoomdak, I'm not sure if you wanted to be in the list or not?

I LOVE my shot - don't enter any anymore that I don't and I KNEW it wouldn't 'reach' a score.

I just hope it reaches the folks that think OOBIE is cool - GRIN!

SO sign me up please, I'm WELL under six - SMILE!

Sign me up, too, please. Far under six (far under five, if truth be told). But I love it!

Oh I want in. 5.7 and going down. Not bad but I really thought it would do better.

Can I please join, I love my shot, love it! But it's something a bit different for me, I actually thought it would be DPC friendly for a change but I really struggled with the processing. My one comment doesn't tell me much.

You're all added :)

I'm getting increasingly miffed by the muted reception to my shot - I consider it the best photograph I've ever taken, and still one comment and a score in the mid-5's!

I think this'll be me too. Can I join in? :)
02/03/2008 02:33:30 PM · #39
But of course :)

I'd like to join. My FS is at 3.7 and not going anywhere.

I'm in! I qualify for all points lol
02/06/2008 06:47:26 PM · #42
bump :)

For anyone else who's a bit miffed with their Free Study score...
02/06/2008 07:06:42 PM · #43
well, I'm not miffed, but I definitely qualify for the club - so count me in too, please. :)

Count me in too, please!

I'd like to give it a shot. I thought sure I nailed it this time but I'm hung up at 5.2 Can I get in? Thanks

I've now divided everyone up into groups of 5 or 6 - please try to comment on at least the entries of everyone in your group, and of course anyone else!

Right then, I'd better start the ball rolling. I considered my Jan Free Study entry one of my best ever shots. Although the score of 5.4 was more or less expected, I was disappointed with only two comments.

Why do I love my entry? I just think there's a lot of London in the shot - the hustle and bustle of commuters, the smiling tourist with her camera, the diversity of the people in the shot, and the weary Londoner casting an eye over it all... I'm pleased with the framing and the conversion but obviously disappointed it didn't attract too much attention.

That's me done - please post your shots ladies and gents!

This is what 309th looks like...

I love this shot because it was captured candidly, I saw it as I was swinging left into a main road and there it was.

I had processed it when it was captured, and loved what I had done, but because I had kept a record of my steps I needed to do it again and I'm not as thrilled with MarkII - not sure why.

In retrospect I think the frame may have been 'too' much.

But in entering it I KNEW it wouldn't please the masses - it's my lot - GRIN!

I love this shot for a few reasons.

1) Colour of the berries contrasted with the muted beige of the background and the white of the snow
2) The quality of the bokeh
3) The OOF berries in the BG
4) Curved line of the branch
5) The dark remains of the berries in the background which contrast well with the in focus berries in the foreground and the OOF berries in the background.

I tend to look at the OOF then check the foreground subject to see how it works with the background.

One thing I might do next time is to close down the lens just a little bit more to get a bit more DOF so then entire clump of foreground berries are in focus. As it is, the ones at the very back are OOF.

ETA: Thanks for all the comments. I think shooting down the branch rather than across it may work as well. I do like the repetitive curves of the smaller branches.

I really love this shot. Just the scene with the boats, the colors. I liked the way the boats were put to rest in a circle. The score did climb a little towards the end but I thought it would do better.
