The image is very pretty.. The colours and composition work really well.. While the dof makes the picture it could also be letting it down a little.. The berries are just not tack sharp dpc style and that makes the viewer feel that it's slightly oof.. Also I would have liked the two branches to be positioned in the frame slighly apart..

I think this should have scored better. I think the colors, DOF, and bokeh are spot on. Not sure it would be possible but if you could have composed it with the two reds at opposite points of the thirds, it might have helped the flow of the picture. That said, I would have voted it a 7 had I voted.

Oooh, great minds think alike . Same title, even!

Mine didn't do exceptionally well in its challenge, either, so my opinion might not help much. I love your colors, bokeh and DOF, but I do tend to like angled compositions better.

The elements of the shot are wonderful - branch, berries, bokeh. Colors are really great. I'll echo what some others said in terms of what is "off" - the rhythm or flow of the composition. A tighter crop, different angle for the DOF - something along those lines. The eye is unsure where to go. I think in a different challenge it would have done much better.

Bokeh is attractive, colors and tones are appropriately wintery - I like what I see here. :)

For the record, I love this shot. This is the stuff i really enjoy looking at. Your colors are very good. I like the DOF, but think this may have fared a bit better had you gone a little deeper. The berries are sharp, but the back of the cluster and even the branch attached to them starts to get OOF very quickly. You have oof branch on both sides of the photo. The bokeh is great on this shot. My only thought (and what do I know...) would be to make it a little different and rotate the shot CCW 90ยบ to make it very different. Then you would commant the look of the viewer a bit more. By including the OOF berries it does show depth. Overall...I think it's a very nice shot of a simple subject.

First, I'm a beginner, so take this with a grain of salt...
I do like the shot overall. The downside for me is that the bokeh feels distracting. perhaps the bokeh is too well defined on the outer edges, so a little softer, centered bokeh may have felt warmer. Also, I wonder what this shot would have looked like with just a little more DOF, allowing the sharpness to soften as you travel down the foreground branch. The repeating curves are indeed really pleasing and the placement of the main subject is perfect.

You have some great shots on your profile page and I hope to reach that level one day myself. They Went That-A-Way made me laugh.

I agree w/ ingridblue - the other 2 clumps of berries are what throw this off for me. They don't blend into the background, so they pull focus,a nd yet they are out of focus. The bokeh of the background is amazing, though.

Beautiful, delicate image with lovely bokeh. Often the 1.8 aperture is just too narrow but I think it's used very well here. Bit surprised at the mediocre score - they're a demanding bunch these voters!

I actually really like the DOF on this one! The only thing I could suggest is a closer crop, as I really want to see the in-focus berries more up close :) Well done!

The bokeh in this shot looks very interesting... i like the texture it gives to the background.
