I am doing this. They are coming by November 25th. It is the model Carissa in my port here and her boyfriend and his daughter. Offered a freebie and a free print.
It will turn into a lot because he is in a local band that needs photos for stuff. Shooting them live the 24th as well.

I think Gordon meant that we should do something selfless, without expectation of future reward. :) |

Evidently I was not clear in my post. I did a model shoot for her and offered a Holiday family portrait for free not expecting anything in return............it did turn into a my boyfriend's band thing.

Sounds like a good reason to be taking pictures

I've volunteered to shoot the local Christmas parade this year. I will also be shooting for the local volunteer fire department starting in the new year, fire training, etc... Community service is a great way donate your skills and feel good doing it. :)

This is an excellent idea, Gordon! What time should my family show up at your studio? :P
I might be in. I'll think of at least one thing to do. How will this be tied to DPC? What if I get the BEST SHOT EVER and I want to enter it in a challenge - does that negate the philanthropy aspect - so it would not count and I would have to do another thing? Can I write any of this off on my taxes? Am I overanalyzing this? Should I just leave now? :)
Here's some ideas that popped into my head:
- Volunteer to take (better) mug shots at the local jail
- Offer to go on a cruise or vacation with someone as their official photographer. All they have to do is provide meals and accomodations and you give them a free album of 4x6 glossies.
- Offer to take pics for Santa of kids on his lap in exchange for moving your name to the "other list" - oops, expected return- sorry scratch that.
Ok, I'm done. Seriously good idea though and I will come up with something or will at least cheer you all on. |

I've been invited to shoot portraits (and a group shot) of all a local hospice's service dogs and their handlers. No money, but it sounds totally fun! |

I did recently do this.
The Memorial Print (see my signature) that I've got for sale - I had one printed and sent to Kasey's parents.

This is a small example of the sort of thing I've been doing. I shot several portraits of artists on Saturday, then went around and dropped off some prints this morning. Was a lot of fun - I think I made some new friends along the way. |

I'm shipping prints back to Afghanistan this morning. The local gentleman who were helping get our living area ready for winter were quite keen on posing for me when I had my camera out. I printed up several versions in enough copies for all of them. We also have one local gentleman who wears his Supervisor badge quite proudly - he posed for me as well - that shot is on it's way back, too. They're not Gordon-quality (that should be trademarked for street/available light portraits, by the way) but I'm hoping they make someone's day. |

I gave the print that won first prize in a 'single rose' competition to the lady who owned the rose bush where I took the photo. She loved it. |

I took photos of our local Remembrance Day parade and ceremony. I edited the pictures and then talked to my usual print supplier (Blacks Photography) and the manager agreed to print the photos into 5x7's for free. So I am picking up some nice albums and will be dropping off an album at the local Legion, Air Force Association, Naval Association & Armouries each with 70 5x7 photos in it of the event, so the Vet's can browse through them and discuss old friends at their leisure.
Thanks to Blacks for coming through for me on the project because I really wanted to have them as 5x7's so they would be easier for the older Vet's to view. :)

Sounds like a great use of your time and skill. Nice to get the prints for free too.

Thanks. :) Yes it was a bonus to get the prints free. I told her that they would say "Photography courtesy of Ernie Basciano, printing donated by Blacks Photography" on the inside cover, so that made them happy. |
