If the target audience (judges) can tolerate something this progressive I'd go with this:

...still browsing portfolio. :)

yeah I thought about that one but i don't know how I would feel winning a competition with a work that was me trying as best as I could to copy someone else's work....

Well it is a competition right? Then it is about showing your best. Larus was the inspiration for this shot no question but he didn't take this one. I don't think Laurs invented the black & white head shot. :-P
Heck if you won with it I bet he would be thrilled!

But I understand where you are coming from. All you stuff is quite worthy of entry.

ETA: Good luck! :-)

Who is the judging the competition?

This is a fine image, but if it's a contest judged by a crowd I'd go with whatever scored best on dpc.

I'd go with your passion, or vision. Entering someone elses' shot, if they took it or not is an empty, dry road. Winning with it is worse.

I haven't looked through your portfolio, but of those posted in the thread, this one is hands down my pick.

The dirty one is great, but that second of your first two optioned would be good.

I think you should go for the jumping bride with flowing veil. That is such a great shot -- it has it all (emotion, great composition, and terrific tones). Of course, there are number of your B/Ws that are very good. The recent "dirty" shot is nothing to sneeze at (so to speak). I think you'll do quite well with whatever your ultimate choice is.
