Nothing wrong with that... what sort of qualifications do you think would be necessary to define an adequate instructor? Most of the people who would be doing this are hobbyists that participate here on DPC. |
Anyone could run a class, I just think it would be useful info. If Skip or Judi or Cindi or someone were teaching classes related to the work they are doing professionally, I'd think there would be a good chance of learning something there. I would also likely pay to compensate them for their time.
If someone's sole qualification was a ribbon in a PJ challenge, I wouldn't expect as much. That's all. |
There are many people with great knowledge in the various area's of photography, some may be technically orentated (eg camera setup, in camera tricks etc) others software and others photo related such as composition etc
For instance I could teach you how to forget to zip up a back pack and bounce your brand new Nikon D70 on a concrete path :/ (Survived without a scratch luckily)

The year before (or was it several years) there was a really sucessful series. I learned a lot from one run by Nico Blue with a few lessons by Joey Lawrence. Can we request certain classes? or cetain teachers? I think this is a great idea.

Like I said earlier...If everyone would like a DPSchool in a forum based setup I can offer it for free. I can set it up for us to have a place for to learn from others until DPChallenge has a chance to put such a learning place on site.
I know off site is not the best way, I think jmsetzler suggestion is the best but I will be glad to host it if everyone would like.

********
The actual course material hasn't been compiled yet, but a majority of it is already written...
I use this as an example of how an online photography course should be setup and administered. This post just contains the outline. A good course should include a solidly written course manual with each lesson explained in detail with assignments to exercise the student in the given subject matter. The photo assignments should be posted to a unique forum where the students collaborate with the instructor on the images.
Just some food for thought...

I'm really interested in participating. I think that courses should be self paced as there are some weeks that I dont have much time and other weeks that I do. As long as they are finished within a reasonable time frame. |

I'd be interested on doing a course on photo-impressionism.
I think my score in the impressionism challenge should stand as my credentials for that. Any interest ?

how about we use the voting system in dpc to vote within the classes when we are ready to move onto the next class, i think this is the only way of keeping the class focused on one subject but with the flexibility to progress at the right speed. Sort of a majority rules type of thing?
but this is running before we can walk, Scott would be great at setting this sort of thing up (just look at the WPL) |

it is a great idea I have recently (overpaid imo) for some online classes that had big names attached...but the site itself sucked and the response time was sssssssslllloow to post and questions, now there are some perks to that site like being able to have your images possibly viewed by big stock agencies, but as far as the learning goes I think there is just as much wisdom here.
So for me....I am refocing efforts to dpc this coming year |

How would the interest in this idea vary if it was not hosted on the DPC website? This idea has not been presented directly to the administrators yet. If they accept it and agree to host the program, everything would be great. If they don't, would anyone be interested in the idea if it was hosted elsewhere?

You mean DPC based but simply hosted else where right? If that were the case I'd have no problem with it.
If it was not DPC based then I'd have to look at it and decide then.
