OMG...too funny!! LOL

What is actually sad about this photo is this woman is in the US military and this is how she has chosen to represent herself to a foreign country. We are always told that we are ambassadors to countries that we visits and this is how she decided to show the people of South Korea that Americans act.

This in my opinion is the real issue and should be addressed. We military here in Japan see everyday on the TV about how we are supposed to be representives of America. There are regulations galore about proper attire, everything from shirts to pants to shoes. It may seem stupid to some but without these regulations I can only imagine what we would be seeing out in town, some of it is already pushing the line. It doesn't matter if she is full figured or not, this attire should not be allowed, I would be ashamed to say I was from the same country as these people.

I think I would be tempted to send it to the base newspaper office as a "what not to wear" item. No ones face is shown so it should be safe and could even be sent anonymously.

Some of you have said this particular woman shouldn't wear that outfit. At least one of you has said no one should.

Who are you to pass judgment either way?

Judging is what humans are built for. All of our senses are in place to ensure that we can discriminate between what we do like and what we don't like. By ANY objective standard, this mode of dress in inappropriate in a public place.

This woman made a very in-your-face choice my putting on those shorts and walking out the door. Nobody should be surprised that her choice has come back to bite her in the ass (so to speak). I hope that she sees this and I hope that the feedback and ridicule will change her. This is how people grow. People who make ridiculous choices and then tell everybody âdonât judge meâ are trapped in the mind of a twelve year old. This is not how adults respond to one another.

That was one of the least objective statements I've ever read.

Seeing as I was just at this last night, this is hardly the kind of thread I woke up expecting to see.
06/10/2007 04:46:13 PM · #55
Wow, I certainly didn't expect this kind of a reaction to this photo when I woke up this morning.

To clarify a few things that I think have been misineterpreted....

1. I never comments on the size of the woman. I never implied that the size had anything to do with the inappropriatness of her attire. In fact all I commented on was that friends don't let friends dress like this. At some point in time someone should have stepped in and said, you know, you probably shouldn't wear those shorts, much less buy them.

2. This owman chose to make a spectacle of herself by going out in public dressed like this. She knew full well what she was doing and thought she was funny for doing it.

3. The picture does not depict a recognizable face so, I am quite confident that I have not done any harm ot the individual.

4. As far as the Virginia Tech comment. Wow. I can tell that you have never seen an AFRTS commercial. Whether you agree with the philosophy or not, it is the intnet of the military to have us dress appropriately while in foreign countries. HEck, jsut to travel anyone off the penn I am supposed to be dressed in a collared shirt. Now, I don't believe that the actions of one man at a school reflect poorly on Korean's as a whole, but whehter or not some people do or don't isn't the point. The point is you do your best to represent your country proudly and this person has chosen not to. Whic leads to the next point...

5. The shorts are wrong no matter how big or small this person is. Would people drool if she was smaller, probably, but isn't that what our porn addicted society has turned into? I asaw an article on CNN.com about such a subject. The point is now matter what her size the shorts are wrong and she shouldn't have worn them.

6. To the comments on the quality of the photo... I know it isn't the best photo. I didn't even use the viewfinder, I was walking behind trying to get the pictures so that I can use this image to show newcomers what is and isn't appropriate attire. Yes it was at night, the IISO was set at 3200 and the shutterspeed still lagged behind....sorry.

To all those offended by the picture or the discussion please beleive me when I say this was never about a woman's figure, just her choise to make a spectacle of herself by dressing inappropriately, and the choices of her Wingmen not to correct her.

I still think the droopy-drawers style is idiotic. If you want to express yourself as an idiot to me, fine. Someday I'm probably going to pull your pants off in public and run away with them just for a laugh.

I don't consider that my opinions are objective and neither should you. So congratulations for missing the point. Whether or not you like it, there ARE still objective standards in this world.

And one more thing. Itâs very interesting to note that when a subject like climate change is talked about, people like to say things like âweâre all in this together and everything one of us does affects everybody elseâ. But when something like this is the topic, itâs nobodyâs business and âwho are you to judgeâ? At least be consistent. We are all in this together or we arenât.

It doesn't particularly matter if I like it, but standards change from culture to culture and person to person. I'm sure some of the African tribes would find her a bit too covered.

I find it very interesting that you joined the site just to take part in this discussion. I hope you like photography and cheese ;-)

That may be, but this picture was taken in Korea. I've spent a lot of time in Chinhae, Pusan and Seoul. This defies all standards. Even the prostitutes dress more modestly than this.

It's ok Sher, I'll put the thread on ignore. Some people can't have civil conversations without resulting to disguised attacks. Ofcourse I guess people with one day of longevity on the site have little to lose.

Whether you be large or small, I don't think it's appropriate to wear clothes like that in public places.
06/10/2007 07:22:32 PM · #69
Moral of the story.....Wear pants that fit.. Why has this become bigger than that? Clothes that don't fit (too big or tight)are funny.... Lighten up....

Id like the people who think that there is nothing wrong with her way of dressing to picture this:

"You are on a crowded subway sitting down, she is standing infront of you with her back turned"

..are you just sitting there with a neutral face, perhaps in your open mindedness you havent even noticed her shorts and a$$
06/10/2007 08:24:06 PM · #71
I do have to agree with one thing the BHuseman on one point: someone probably should have warned her that people would ridicule her for her outfit. Not because there's something universally, inherently right or wrong about her clothes, but because of people who judge others based on their clothing. Maybe they did, though, and she decided to have inner strength enough to do what she wanted.

BHuseman: what's an "AFRTS commercial"?

As for the people who claim no harm is done because their faces aren't shown completely, I'd ask you to have a picture taken of you from behind and then show it to your friends and colleagues, and ask who it is. I'd bet most people would know you from behind. And this woman's size alone means she probably stands out wherever she goes, so she has even less anonymity.

At the end of the day, there are simply two types of people in this thread: those who think it's appropriate to impose and express their opinions of what people should wear and those who think it's not appropriate.

Neither group will convince the other to change.

Personally I just like saying "junk in the trunk". It makes me giggle. My post was 90% so I could actually type the words "junk in the trunk". hehehe.

A) The woman likely qualifies as "obese" by medical terms (although I'm guessing not by a whole lot). Let us all take a moment to reflect that obesity is now the leading cause of preventable death in the United States.

B) The clothing is inappropriate. Would she walk into a daycare to pick her child up in that? A church? An elementary school? Would you?

C) If a skinny "hot" woman was wearing that, it would be attractive, but still wrong.

I'm a fairly liberal guy (at least in the circles I run with), but there is a line which can be crossed. This isn't really even borderline. It's just plain inappropriate.

Junk in the Trunk. ha!

Darn I wish the Ignore thread option would make it where I can't see a thread at all. :-)

OK, Doc... w/o turning this into a religious debate (because this view is shared among several religions) what makes it inherently wrong. And, why do some peoples of the world live mostly nude?

Badonkadonk :-D

I think this thread hasn't latched on to the REAL hot topic... the Droopy-Drawers style... WTF is up with that? Style is meant to attract the opposite sex in order to get some hot lovin', isn't it? What females are attracted to Droopy-Drawers? I truly cannot wrap my mind around it.

AFRTS is the Armed Forces Radio and Television Service. They have become the Armed Forces Netqwork as of late. When we get our television programs we don't get to see all of the commercials people in the states do. Instead we have trivia, and educational commercials, and public service announcements galore. Some of these deal with how people dress while in forgien countries. Others are just completely idiotic telling me the different types of powers of attorney, or how to make my house look like I am at home even though I am on vacation. They are stupid, but the point is when you have seen as many of them as we have you know better than to wear this.

Now, if I took a picture of my butt and everyone knew it was mine, that would tell me that a lot of people are checking me out! Sweet!
