Well, we found it's funny comments since it's an expert editing challenges. So HEAVY OR LIGHT EDITING is already EXPECTED in the entries. Skill and taste of voters it's their own choice. Photographers who own the entries photos have personal taste too.

Six of my 15 comments (so far) complain about my entry being overprocessed. Yet look at the score & favs. I think that a small percentage of people are against the Expert Editing ruleset, and they are 'patrolling' the expert challenges making anti-editing comments and low votes in the hopes of curtailing editing.

While, so far, 40% of my comments are from the anti-editing camp, I get the feeling they only make up 3% or so of the population. A negligible number of people, as my entry isn't that great anyway.

Hey, whatever turns your crank, I say. I'll continue to low-vote shots of flying monkies because they're just plain scary.

I followed the basic rules for this challenge, and yet I've received numerous comments from people who say I over-edited the photo. I guess because this is an expert editing challenge, they assume that all the entries take advantage of (abuse) the expert editing rules.

Probably the only way I would use the expert rules is to do a triptych with multiple photos, a panorama, or HDR (although I haven't been very successful with my HDR attempts so far). I wouldn't score someone else low for pushing the boundaries, though.

We look to be in similar range bryan...

One weird thing is the votes and views. I have nearly 20 votes less on 50 more views.

Of the comments that have issues I am getting one theme coming out. That makes me think they are onto something. While they incorrectly blame my processing, it seems that I could have improved it a bit.

::Peers enviously at the stats of BryanBrazil and DrAchoo...::

Congratulations on those impressive numbers!

Well, I can't complain. I'm thrilled with the comments (even got a fav!). Thank you so much! I'm fairly certain my profile page will change (Yippee!), but I'm sad because I like my other photo better.

Now, if only I can do something about my Thirds entry...which will probably end up in the THREE range...YIKES!

I've also got a lot of comments saying that my entry is overprocessed and they're probably right! LOL I rarely do a lot of processing to my photos but I did in this case (but not expert editing, all of my edits are legal in advanced and probably basic). I've got a lot of comments, I think either you love it or you hate it.

Note to self - landscapes need to be clear, crisp and have no business being forced into a soft focus relationship. I appreciate the comments and this being the first landscape I've submitted I've learned a bit. I shy away from landscape in general - there are so many of you that take brilliant landscapes that I tend to think "oh well why bother", but this time I submitted and have been inspired to work on my landscaping a bit.

That's the spirit!!!

But voters are not voting based on the photographer's taste (although I know a lot of people wish that was the way it worked), and just because the photographer likes it doesn't mean its good. (Caveat - just because the voters don't like it, doesn't necessarily mean its bad. Although a near universal bad reaction to a photo should perhaps tell the photographer something.)

If you'll re-read my comments, I don't have anything against "heavy" editing per se. Part of the experience of this site is trying out new stuff, and another part is getting critiqued for it. Even "heavy and obvious" editing can be done well, and there are several shots in this challenge that fit right into this mold. For what it's worth this challenge produced a personal scoring range that was higher than my norm; several more 9s and 10s than usual.

I just find it annoying that the first reaction from so many people on this site when they get comments they don't agree with, or their shot gets a score lower than they deserve, is to accuse the voters of getting it wrong. (And then the flip is, of course, to complain about how few people leave comments.) Sure, there will always be outliers and you can't please all of the people all of the time. But perhaps -- just perhaps -- the focus should be less on the voters' eye and more on the phtographer's execution?

5.8!! wow that's a really big jump on all of my previous challenge entries...it's all way up from 4.7!

I thought it would be around 4.7 to 5.2.
i'm very please with the big jump on the score.
really unexpected!

I was just thinking you got hit by the not so secret Troll faction known as H.A.P.P.Y., (Hatefully Anti Post Processing Yahoos). I was also hit by HAPPY early on but recovered soon afterwards. Thankfully, they're an ineffectual minority on this site, though they do hold some loud demonstrations out in front of the Parliament buildings and sometimes leave burning bags of poo here & there.

I think I'm going to be affected by the anti-troll at rollover. Received a comment last hour and my vote count changed by 1. The commenter is a new member and has only cast 5 votes with an average of 8.5. Since his total vote cast hasn't changed in an hour, I'm betting my 9 will get scrubbed when all is said and done.

Still, my image will end up a personal best.

Edit: 3 plus hours later and he is up to 240 votes. Looks like rollever will be kinder than I expected.

Got knocked down early by some people that didn't like my processing. Still a nice rebound from a 4.7 something after the first day. Still keeping my fingers crossed for a little higher score to possibly get higher on my profile page.

Probably because yours is just as reasonably good but just as boring as mine!

Just wanted to say I left some "processing" related comments.. but I'm not a Troll and I'm not anti processing, but in this challenge I was definitely anti over processing... so if I am the troll you are referring to.. then...

you left me a comment, but not troll-ish, just an opinion :) thats the funny part, i only got like 1 or 2 comments that actually contained any criticism at all, pretty much all of htem were just complimentary. :) unfortunately my score doesnt reflect the masses however... boooo
