Gosh, I wish I could swap my image over at this point... I've played with it a bit more in post processing, and it looks much better. I'll look forward to some more feedback on the updated verson in the forums post-challenge!

I need a few more tenths to be my highest image but over the last day mine has risen 4 tenths so it's possible I guess.

No regrets at all over here ... I like the shot and pleased as punch that this image reached at least a few folks around here. It ain't always about the ribbons and high scores.

It's stuff like this that makes DPC cool. Thanks, you guys! Ingrid, post a thread after the challenge and I'm sure folks will offer some feedback. Dennis - look forward to seeing yours!

Interesting curve, Steve. Mine is a bit more clumped - I don't generally give anything below a 4, but I don't give as many 9s and 10s as you do either.

And as for scores, I turned mine on to look and I am positively delighted!! Far, FAR better than expected. Thankee kind voters!

Congrats on the good score. I'll be curious how my vote of your image compares to the group.

Regarding scoring I generally use the full scale in every challenge except for "1" which is rarely used. There always seem to be images that fit each score. :) It is a little unusual for me to give more 10s than 9s but it is average for me to give about 10% of the images a score of 10. Just seems to work out that way, it is not by design. I and Hihosilver might be the only DPCers who think 7 is average. :)

Melethia, Thank you for the nice comment you left me too! I love my shot but I guess it has a few technical problems. But you saw the beauty in it!

04/21/2007 02:48:42 PM · #140

Wow I just got a "Over processed" comment on my entry, funny I just did the usual minor adjustments (levels, curves, crop, USM) and it's Expert Editing.

/gasp

i guess if they want "no processing"..should vote for the
minimal editing which is nearly straight from camera. Its would help my bug! :D

Can Anybody find my picture?
04/21/2007 10:11:08 PM · #144
You have rated 175 of 306 images (57%) in this challenge.
You have commented on 115 images (38%) in this challenge.

I'm certainly not going to get to all of them, but I am enjoying lots of what I see. I do like the processing options open to expert.

Did you use HDR or any noticeable editing technique?
04/22/2007 10:57:16 AM · #148
I'm at 5.5 - not feeling badly about it, since it was a last minute rushed job. Have had a nice bundle of comments though which have showed up why I've not scored higher - thanks guys. Note to self - landscapes need to be clear, crisp and have no business being forced into a soft focus relationship. I appreciate the comments and this being the first landscape I've submitted I've learned a bit. I shy away from landscape in general - there are so many of you that take brilliant landscapes that I tend to think "oh well why bother", but this time I submitted and have been inspired to work on my landscaping a bit.

Just because it's "expert editing" doesn't mean that heavy and obvious editing works for every shot, or that everyone who uses the "full range of editing tools" necessarily knows how to use them well. There are issues of skill and taste (personal as well as objective), that (properly, imho) factor into the voting.

Well, we found it's funny comments since it's an expert editing challenges. So HEAVY OR LIGHT EDITING is already EXPECTED in the entries. Skill and taste of voters it's their own choice. Photographers who own the entries photos have personal taste too.
