Are we talking silhouettes? or the soft "halo" effect around the perimeter of the subject from the soft golden hour lighting from behind said subject?

I'll do some more "research" tomorrow (headed to bed, right now), but how is this different from backlighting?

A Contra Luz!!

Yes, I have the same question! Also, Does the main light must be showing?? or one might hide it a bit behind the subject??

No, my understanding is it is more like that light low contrast glow look for instance when the sun is just out of the frame. Or the early morning light from a windown softly illuminating a still life. Make sense?

I would venture a guess as YES...back lighting and Silhouettes

Are we talking something like this?

This challenge will surely include many silhouettes, but don't let this limit you to only that. You are shooting into the *main* light source. Other lightsources may be used as well to reflect upon or illuminate the front of the subject as well.

Oh, man, I'm excited! I do way too much of this, which isn't always how to use light. ;-)

Try this search engine for Contre-jour. It works well for me, without all the nudes.

I took a pic that would be great for this challenge... yesterday.

Guessing these are examples, as all were shot facing the sun which was the primary light source.

That's a recent one I was thinking of, too.

I think this may be an example that would work?

Also would just shooting a sunset as the sun fades down and aiming the camera so the sun is in the frame work also?
BTW I think xianart will do great in this challenge she had some really cool shots into the sun from her 30 Day where you live challenge

Do we need to have a subject.. I mean. can't the light source be the focus.. No dramatic silhouettes or stuff..
03/28/2007 05:29:52 AM · #20
Another possible example:

And Joe, that one of yours would work quite well, methinks.

I get this effect by accident practically every time I go out shooting. But my hunch is creating it on purpose will be a challenge. However, I am going to take my alien bees and power pack out into the darkness and see what I can muster up.
