This is my wife and child, Ada - once again the natural light of the sliding glass door. I was pretty happy with the result on this - hopefully the almost silhouette on this one won't bother people. I figure if i can use my family in an image and it appeals to people, it's a success. PP: Shot in RAW using f2.8 … pumped up the contrast, sharpened (NoiseNinja) and desaturated completely, also crop and rotate.

post-results: WHAT, NO 4th place!!! :P
I'm really excited for my second ribbon. Since the beginnning I pretty much considered that the goal so that i could be elligible for "Masters" challenges. I have learned so much by competing here - Little did I know that the thing that would win me the ribbon was the same thing that wins my heart every day. This weekend she had a 105F temp and visited the ER 2-times - getting an IV (including a missed attempt and resulting rash that we thought was menengitis ... and all sorts or torture. She's OK and but she desrves to have her cute butt on the front page of this site ! I'm gonna go buy some prints, won't you? :) Here's another recent challenge that you might recognize starring Ada:
Sorry to ramble on ... just excited =)
Oh yeah, special thanks to DPC member Roxanne (greatandsmall) for reminding me that I had excellent successes right at home to photograph!

This is absolutely fantastic. Doesn't hurt that I just watched "For All Mankind," a terrific documentary with real footage from the US space shots. Or that I have two young daughters of my own; some of my favorite video footage is of them when they first walked.

One of a few favorites from you.

Yup - shutter was 1/2000 ... the "sun" room is very bright in thge morning because the sun is direct ... and because i was shooting with a small DOF (f2.5), I needed even more shutter speed. And yes, she is one fast baby!

This is one image that has a universal ring for us all. It is an image that projects the essence of adaptation regarding our early struggle which begins with so much innocence. The capture deserves praise in its great use of a partial silhoutte and now look at those cute feet!
Congratulations on your RED.

Everything about this shot works so well for me....the b/w, the dof, the lighting and catching that foot at just the right moment. Going into my favorites.

Congratulations on your long deserved ribbon! What a beautiful shot. Amazing lighting, perfect tones and contrast. Great DOF and detail. This image tells a beautiful and touching story and illustrates success perfectly. So much for fourth place;) Maybe you'll have to wait a while for that one (After a few blues).

Congrats!, IMHO, Some may or may not like the subject/object but although we're judging the photographers skills, techniques and interpretation. The emotions created and depicted in art and photography, and aimed at/for the viewer, is equally important.

You've captured a warm spot in everyones memory. As always some totally like the blurred shadow of the mother and some don't.

My sons actual first steps, he suddenly jumped up, and with arms stretched up, ran toward his crib in the bedroom. Photographs are treasures, too. - Just-a-Mister-E

Nice shot, congrats on your second ribbon. This is one of those images where I think "why didn´t I think of that" cause there is a petite 14 month old girl running around my house too :) Cute shot and one that will be fun viewing in the years to come.

Awesome B/W, I love the strong dynamic backlighting on this one. I also like the blurred mother in the BG which adds to the moment.

Love the backlighting! Nice job exposing in a tricky (but beautiful) lighting situation. Mom in the background is actually kind of distracting. I think it would be a stronger shot without her there or if you had stepped to the left a little so there was more separation between her and the baby. 7 from me.

I sometimes have trouble with all the pictures of children people enter in any given challenge, since they sometimes stretch to meet the challenge - but in this case - your photo fits perfectly - good job.

What makes this so above average imo is the story that every parent remembers..... the tenuous steps of our babies - it not only tugs at the heart strings, this photo is very well photographed - bump
