Ahhhhhhh - that clears things up. She is advising the OP to throw his beads before he throws his pigs (which is always my preference anyway). That last phrase looks like some sort of hex though. |

You vote the way you want (Oh I see you have!), but please don't come on the forums and try to persuade other voters to vote your way too. That is attempted vote rigging in my book!

Personally, I don't think people take the DNMC criteria seriously enough.
If I think how many low votes I had to dish out to good photos simply because they were DNMC in the 'Best of 2006' challenge, it makes me kinda sad.
And I bet there are going to be just as many OOTB entries on the January Free Challenge... all DNMC I'm afraid. When are they going to learn?
:-p |

At Mardi Gras throwing beads gets one better photos than throwing pigs... just an observation.

Not when it is out in the open; and I am entitled to my own opinion. |

Doh!! It's like when you rent a movie and the DVD is damaged, but it only affects the last 20 minutes and you sit through it for over an hour and you never get to see the ending! :( |

I think the point here is that someone may not be trying to do anything to influence votes but it can still happen. That's why there's the policy of not posting outtakes during a challenge (even if you didn't submit). I think that it is possible that someone could read this thread and go "oh okay now I am hating all of such-and-such a group of shots where I didn't before". So the point isn't to accuse you of trying to manipulate things, but to say that sometimes stuff happens to manipulate things and we should try to avoid them.
(and for the record I'm going to bed now so won't be looking at this thread for a while)

As I said in another post, I personally think the concept of "fill the frame" is bogus and wide open for alternative definition. i.e., you can fill a frame with a lot of things, all of them being your subject.
to quote myself:
"I fill every frame with what I want to see, and the image and relationship between what I've chosen to photograph is what makes the image. Sometimes the subject is easily determined. Other times its not so much about ONE thing. Photos and imagery can portray emotive qualities and sometimes THAT is the subject. The test, for me anyway, is this: does the photo succeed if one of the parts were removed or must it be taken as a single "whole presentation"? Out of the box and open minded - sure. Gonna get votes at DPC - nope, not likely."
that's my take on it - and claiming that images that dont have the frame filled completely probably deserve better votes for what they do contain - be it a feeling, emotion, etc.
The single minded lock step nature of most challenge interpretations simply drives me mad. I wonder what most people here think when they look at fine art or art without a title. Learn to interpret things as you see them, within a context (whatever that context must be) and think about what you are seeing for a change. ugh.
end rant. |

I wonder if the ones who do the DNMC votes(and don't think I am pointing any fingers as I am just speaking in general)do actually enter the challenges that they vote on....and if so...I would love to see their entry to see if it met the challenge or if the voting was just a reaction to bad votes received.

Point well taken. Good Idea. Let's address the issue after each contest vote is up.
Thanks |

Some people saw that as DNMC . And that was their opinion.
SO!
And some others really liked it and left beautiful remarks.
It is all ok.
May be youself with few years of maturing will see diferent views are ok.
