Except if you go look through that thread and look at their profiles, most haven't voted at all.
Edit: My no camera votes have always been much lower than those with cameras, long before that thread.

Besides, there are plenty of active members who don't have a camera listed. Like crayon. |

I'm standing with Cindi on this one. I don't like it, and IF it were my site, I'd put a freaking stop to it one way or another. It's Langdon's site; there's no international law that says he can't boot the heck out of these people.
Originally posted by mk: Personally, I don't see that it tarnishes our reputation any more than some of the threads that the members here create. As long as they aren't really causing problems, I see no real issue. |
This is bogus, sorry. I don't give a flying rat turd about "potential revenue" as NONE of it is "potential revenue" for me. That's Langdon's problem. I'm not here to protect his revenue, and my position relative to the question is not going to be affected one gnat's eye by his potential for income. He can take care of himself. My interest in the site is that I like it because it is primarily a community of photographers that happen to have other interests. When it becomes a Community Center for gamers who are too freaking cheap or lazy to set up and run their own forum, I DON'T LIKE THAT.

If they're photographic in nature they might be useful. However, I'm pretty sure that true spam threads are put out in a hurry. I do find it ironic that the last time I pointed out someone that I suspected of this activity, you were very quick to jump to HIS defense and accuse ME of not being friendly. Make up your mind :)
Dang it, here I am being bipolar and argumentative again. I just happen to disagree strongly.
EDIT: TO ANYONE WHO READS THIS POST AND THINKS I'M A TOTAL JERK, I'M SORRY. PLEASE DO NOT RESPOND AS THOUGH I'M A TOTAL JERK, EVEN THOUGH I AM. I'M NOT EDITING OUT THE CONTENT BECAUSE IT HAS BEEN QUOTED AND I DON'T WANT TO DESTROY CONTEXT OF THOSE QUOTES. AGAIN, I'M SORRY.

So, it's OK for established members of DPC to talk about an online game, but not OK for new users to do the same? Is it just because they don't submit pictures? If they had a camera listed under their profile, would that make you feel better? Seems to me that there are a few people here aren't active in the challenges and are mainly here to argue politics and religion. Why aren't you railing against them?
I'm sorry, I just don't see the problem. A long-term thinker might argue that if these new users are creating ad revenue, it keeps the cost of running the site down and translates into membership fees remaining affordable.
Just a thought - if some of these new users started buying your prints - would you still be as upset?

Correct.

Because I don't choose to. Who said life was fair?

I would rather pay higher membership fees than to be known as a gaming cheat site. Nothing wrong with gaming; nothing wrong with gaming cheats.

Yes. It would prove their lack of photographic knowledge. As well, most of my decisions and preferences are not motivated by personal gain.
Good grief, where is my Ritalin.... |

I think its rediculous to have a fit that a few people are joining the site for game help. Then I guess it was bad for the peas to join... and bad for anyone else to join that doesnt have a camera...its ok to interupt threads, be rude in threads ... but its not ok to join to get a little help on a game...

NOWHERE did I say you were being rude in the threads... and no where did I point a finger at ANYONE!
If you choose to think its you... then maybe you need to look inside you to see why you pointed the finger at yourself...

well, threads like this are a fine example for us to be showing random people who stop by.
if you don't like the game thread, ignore it and move on. it's as simple as that. |

It's not bogus at all. I wasn't commenting about what YOU give a flying rat turd about, was I? Cindi asked if other people had a problem. I don't. I have no problem considering revenue and I PERSONALLY am not affected by one single thread. I'm also sure that if it becomes an issue, the SC can deal with it. But good luck with the "stand," which so far appears to consist only of trying to randomly run off new users.

Has anyone thought that maybe, just maybe, people came here to cheat on the game and liked the site and the community so much they joined??? And this is how we say thanks for checking us out and joining?
It's racism if you discriminate against other races, sexism if you discriminate based on sex... what's this? cameralessism? or maybe gameinfoseekerism?
So some people joined to get info on a game? It doesn't affect anyone's life. Who cares? It's not like they are starting threads on non photo topics and cluttering the forums (we tend to do a fine job of that on our own...).
What is next? Kick out the Barbie camera users because they are not serious enough about photography to be here?
%$@*! sensitive artist type people!!! :) (note the smile, I typed this in jest)

Hey guys. I'm one of "them".
I'm really glad the vast majority of the members on this site really haven't let the Ouverture-Facile thread get under their skin. I am a hobbyist photographer and I might actually stick around.
Look on the bright side, guys. This site is successful enough to report as one of the first Google search returns. The riffraff will come and go, but you are likely to pick up active members.
And it's unfair to assume the O-F thread is about cheating. With riddles, sometimes you just need to talk it "out loud", and the solution presents itself.
Thanks for having us. |

Watch out, entering the photo contests here might be just about as addictive as that game sounds to be! You should definitely try it out, it's a blast throwing a shot into these challenges.
Cheers,
