Well guys, I just put one in for the year I was born. I didn't have an idea for perspective but I was able to do the year. I don't know how well it will do but at least it's an entry. Wish me luck because I will need it.

My B&W entry finished at 5.564, slightly above average. I plan to enter "The Year you were Born" if I can get the setup right.

Entered!

11/21/2006 09:40:27 PM · #107
I was going to submit to perspective but I just couldn't come up with any good ideas so I settled for the year I was born. I tried a bunch of different setups and finally came up with one that I somewhat like. Well, midnight's getting closer so Good Luck Team D50.

I have decided to buy a D50 because of this thread. I cant belive a camera so affordable has infared, and the Canon rebel does not ! What a bargain.

My "Year Born" entry is hanging on to 5.7, a little better than my average. Just posted an entry in the "Light on White" challenge.

Bear in mind, the D50 still has an IR reject filter covering the sensor. But it still does decent IR photos, just takes a longer exposure!

yeah but taking infra red shots is not that easy, i got a couple of decent shots but ia m sure they coul dbe betterwith the correct settings.nevertheless it's so much fun, hopefully soon i 'll be posting landscape IR shots.

one recomendation though when taking IR pics, shoot in raw then post process later to correct for the white balance. if you need any more tips let me know:)
cheers,

Do you realize that we have 3 people that have never participated!

The D50 has infrared??? *in shock*
I've only had mine about a month, so I'm still learning all it can do. :)

yup i do realize that , i emailed them, but no reply. at this point there is nothing we can do.team D50 will still be there, we just have to look for new people to join us.
i have my finals next week so i 'll try to keep up with the challenges,i have a great idea for the death challenge, i just have to figure out how to set up the lighting.
Anyway once i am done, we'll have a discussion on who wants to stay on the team and who does not, and if we don't get a reply from them then i guess we'll have to look for new teammates.
as for those who participated in the challenges i want to thank you, at the begining we said it was going to be a learning experience, and i still look at it this way.
lately i learned how to use raw images, and i can tell you with the right editing you can get amazing results, if anyone has question about that please let me know:)

yup , i am using a hoya R72 mm filter, with the correct exposure and editing you can get great results. i am still experimenting with it , but so far it's been great , if you have any question feel free to ask:)

well there is no "infra-red" function, you have to setup your camera on a tripod because you 'll be using long exposure times.
you'll need to put your camera in manual mode, i recomend shooting in raw, otherwise you have to set your white balance to a preset photo( have to take a shot of grass or green foliage).
after all that , you have to focus your camera to your subject , then put it in manual focus and put the filter on it and take your shot.

i recomend bracketing (taking multiple shots at different exposures) to get the right picture.

and then you 'll have to do the post processing in photoshop.

i hope that was helpful,
cheers,

Just looking at the stats: looks like we need a minimum of 4 entries each week. If less than 4 entries then zeroes get averaged into our cumulative score. Can we draft a couple more participants?

Nope, all teams are locked for the duration, you might want to encourage your slacking teammates to participate more often, if at all.

Obviously, you'll need to cut the dead weight for next season and make it explicitly clear that weekly participation is required.

I'm definitely in for next session. We just have to find some more people that are willing to participate occasionally. I realize that it's hard to make every challenge but a few would be nice. It doesn't matter to me if we win or lose but it would be nice to have more of the team get involved. I think it's fun.
