Downloaded podcast 5 last week, was quite good to being with but I felt towards the end it started rambling on a bit, I knowits an informal `chatty` style of podcast, but it needed more focus. Hopefully with the inclusion of an interview this week it should stay on the path a bit more.. thanks & well done.. |

Just so you have the info...
I was able to subscribe through iTunes for episodes 3,4, but 5 and 6 are not downloading through iTunes even though I re-subscribed 20 minutes ago.
I am sure you'll get it all sorted out. I can still download them from the website and import them to iTunes for my iPod. |

I have listened to all podcast´s as of yet and the only thing that is bothering me is the quality of sound, or rather the sincere lack of quality. The sound of the voices sound metallic and like specs of speach is missing so if you get the sound quality up, you are all set dude. |

Tough task...decrease the file size AND increase sound quality. We'll see what we can do!
Thanks for the feedback.

I spent time as a sound engineer, and would like to help you with that sound quality issue if you need some that is. I have gear for this sort of thing. It just needs a little mastering thats all.

I think I'm happy to say that the xml file that iTunes looks for is now updated and formatted properly. Lee, I've sent you an email with the 2 issues I've found and you'll need to correct the metadata in all the podcast entries. Bah, only Lee needs to know all of that.
Anyways, I'm currently downloading all 8 podcast to be sure that they are all working. When I'm sure they are I'm submitting the podcast to included in the iTunes library so that it's available by search and such as well.
Lee, we need a logo, icon and cover art. Think we should have a contest? I think I can provide a prize. Thoughts?
Heheh... |

boomtap, any help or suggestions with audio quality would be greatly appreciated. Just send me a PM and let me know how you can help out.
sea2c, looks like we're close on the iTunes situation. WOO HOO! I agree, we need to have a logo of some sort, especially for the community projects site. If you think people will offer services to help us out we can give them credit on the podcast, a guest host spot for a show or a interview...their choice. :)

Hey not a bad logo Ham...Nice job! I do like that "message in a bottle" tagline so that's pretty cool. Very clever!
sea2c, perhaps we should start a new thread with logo suggestions and keep this thread for podcast feedback? If you want to offer some prize for the logo we pick that would be great...we can discuss prize options if you like.

Listened to the first part of the Bryan Peterson interview today.
First off, I think what you are doing is to be commended and you are getting interesting content. That's a tough job right there. I've also had a little bit of experience recording and public speaking like this so I also know that it is hard. So take these comments in that spirit. I like it, but it could be better.
Audio quality: This is pretty bad. Either the audio encoding used or the audio capture equipment needs some work. Across the board it was quiet and hard to hear - even with the volume cranked to max in my car. This is in comparison to radio and other podcasts which seem to do a much better job of the audio levels and encoding. I think also the interviewer might be too close to their mic - lots of breathing noises and rubbing/ hitting of the mic getting picked up ? So that could do with some work, either with better equipment or better handling of the levels and encoding in post.
Second thing is that the questions sounded scripted. Which is fair enough if they are and that you've done some homework, but you need to read them often enough so that they don't sound like you are reading them off a page. It comes off as quite stilted. Occasionally that's okay if you were say quoting a listener's question, but overall you should try to aim for something that sounds more natural. More rehearsal can help with that. Read the questions, out loud, to a mirror a few times. Get the flow.
Second thing would be to have more of a conversation with the interviewee - Listen to their answers, ask follow-up questions. Rather than sticking just to the scripted questions. In each case, try to listen and think up at least one follow on question before you go to the next scripted one. It again helps to make the interaction flow more naturally.
Otherwise, the interview sounded really interesting. I wished I could have made out some of the parts more easily as the audio quality gets in the way a bit but I'm looking forward to the rest of it.

Originally posted by lkn4truth: I'm surprised at the lack of conversation on the forums. I would expect that something that was said in the podcast would generate a conversation considering this last weeks podcast included over an hour and a half of interviews. Are the interviews boring? Do the interviews need to be more controversial to generate discussion? |
You need to try to lead the discussion on the site, rather than follow it. Otherwise you just end up summarizing what happened 'in this week at DPC'
Make the news, don't report it ;) Or use what's happened as a launch pad to go somewhere new, rather than rehashing the same discussions.
That might create more discussion ?

Lee,
Is it possible to do a conference call with skype? It might be an idea to have a group of people that are willing and have some broadcasting (or such) experience to help set the show up or lend a different view of topics to lead into etc.
just a thought.

@ Gordon, you were quite right in your assessment. :) I thank you for your input, which was both honest and gave specific points upon which to improve. There were definitely some sound issues with the recording, caused in part by the fact that Bryan was calling from a cell phone internationally and in part due to my own inexperience in both doing my own recording/editing and interviewing someone with whom I was, well, pretty starstruck about. :)
@sea2c, yes, conference calling is available. We've used it before; however, it does seem to cause even more issues with sound quality.
For everyone who took the time to comment here: thank you so much! I've enjoyed reading all the comments (especially lesgainous *blush*) and take them right to heart as ways to improve.
I'd also like to encourage anyone to PM me if they'd like to share their thoughts (either positive or negative) about any episode, or have any other ideas for future direction. I'd love to hear whatever you have to say!
This has really been just such an awesome experience for me personally, and I'm so grateful to Lee for letting me be a part of it. I understand that there is room for improvement, and I look forward to helping make future podcasts a delight for anyone who shares my enjoyment in all things DPC.
With much appreciation for all who have offered encouragement and advice,
Laurie

I finished listening to the rest of the BP interview. I really enjoyed it, despite the sound issues. I particularly enjoyed the discussion towards the end, when he was talking about his approach to approaching people and his personal projects.
