In photography, as in most things, the "rules" have evolved based on what pleases most people most of the time. To "break the rules" is, by definition, to displease some portion of the people. Since the people do the voting in DPC, that's your answer right there.

someone told me once that you have to look at DPC as a client. go out/in and shoot what your client wants and you'll be pleased with your scores. choose to confuse your client with 'over creativity' and rule breaking and your score suffers. a fact of life here. in the end it's not what your score says anyway, it's what your supposed to be learning from the many fantastic people and photographers on this site. i for one have a fantastic score for landscape, but suffered greatly in bokeh last week with a poor shot, over exposure and over creativeness like you complain about. however bad my score was there i have learned to take it in stride and rebound from my mistakes and go with what i know works and i can accomplish correctly. learn. attention to detail. just my opinion. |

After hanging out in the early voting around 6.500, yesterday I dropped like a hot air balloon when out of gas. I bottomed-out at 5.2083, but have been on a slight upswing since yesterday afternoon, approaching the 6.0 range again .

At this point, I just really want a 5. Voters are keeping it between 4.8 and 4.9. Maybe if we could just remove the 4 button they'd feel it really doesn't deserve a 3 and I could get that 5.
