It's going to be one of those challenges. My score has gone from a 7 to a 6 all in a matter a few votes. Hell of a roller coaster ride.

In my notes on my image (pre vote), I predicted a score between 4.8 > 5.2
Well its no suprise to me that its at 4.6 then! Still I like the image and of the 5 comments so far 3 for 2 against.

:-)

And that's about where I'm at after my execrable beginning :-) Thank goodness... I couldn't believe how low my (very nice) landscape was scoring...

Well, I haven't voted yet, but plan to do my best for everyone...yours included!!! Thank you for your nice comment and I have a question for you when the voting is all over.

I'm sure my high from last night was most likely because my mother was voting...hehe...(j/k)!!!

Well, I'm working on a personal best here. I'm so surprised not to see stdavidson's score posted here...especially for a landscape photographer of his caliber. He must be out and about improving his "sound photographic technique."

Ahhhh... Ms. Silver... with such impish innocence you inquire. I bet it is hard to keep that halo all polished up like that every day, isn't it? LOL!

Well, Mr. Davidson, in this horse race, I don't think it's time to retire your Seabiscuit just yet. I'm quite certain in the next horserace your excellent horsetrading skills will surface yet again to surpass my own meager skill. My bet will always be on your horse, (unless of course, Ursula enters the race....hehehe!!!)

Hehe, this is my worst entry so far. Although I do love the photo. Going in to the challenge I predicted about a 5. It's one of those where you either love it or hate it, and I'm sure most hate it.

Why is creativity such a bad thing on this site? I feel the rules are meant to be broken (photography rules that is, not site rules). And new techniques are meant to be tried.

Well what can you do. I have my own style, which is very unpopular on this site.

Hey Adam! Easy with the needle - LOL. I just entered my first challenge and I understand the frustration. My only goal is to get a score of at least a 5. I was way down yesterday but was happy to see my score go up this morning - hope it stays this way. Avg Vote: 5.2093

Hey, congrats on joining the Challenge and you are off to a great start for a first entry. I made the mistake of my first being in a Free Challenge. Ouch, it wasn't pretty. It's still one of my favorites of mine but it went down like the Titanic.

LOL, re: the 12 gauge, I was referring, jokingly, to a 12 gauge shot gun....blow it to smithereens, lol. :) Kind of like what's happening to my entry. ;-)

Congrats and it looks like you will be above your 5 mark. I'm inching that way. Was up to a 4.9 now a 4.84. I'll take a 5.0 as a personal consolation prize if I can get it. I'm just trying to set my expectations a little higher as I liked this entry much better than my last couple. We'll see. Sometimes the late night voters are kind folks :).

Well I'm torn....pleased with being in the '6' range but disappointed that my personal best score on this one, which was close to 6.8 this morning, has taken such a decline today. I was jumpin' up and down this morning...now I'm just praying to stay in the 6's! I think my landscape shot is unique....hope the voters feel the same way, ultimately.

In photography, as in most things, the "rules" have evolved based on what pleases most people most of the time. To "break the rules" is, by definition, to displease some portion of the people. Since the people do the voting in DPC, that's your answer right there.

It is wrong to imply that creativity is not a "good" thing on this site. The likely truth is that most people do not understand the message you are trying to convey. Like anything, never assume the other side completely understands your intentions and your message. If you want to appeal to wide and diverse audience, you must learn to articulate this through your photography as words are not allowed. This alone is the common thread that is consistent with most great photos, art, music etc. The rest is just technical crap that can be taught to a monkey given enough time. Just my thought.

Well I totally screwed up quoting Ivo the first time, so here's trying:

Well, like I said in my original post, I am getting what I expected. I guess maybe it's not that people on this site don't like creativity, it's that it seems they like pretty. I'm not sure if that entirely makes sense. There's a certain style and genre they like here.

And I know that, that's why I was kinda laughing at the beginning of my thread. It's just the audience (voters). If I wanted to please the audience (the voters) than I wouldn't submit what I did. So I guess maybe I wish some people were more open minded? Idono.

Look at it this way, If you know your target audience is chinese and you communicate in english, don't be upset that they did not understand you.

If you are looking at connecting with a niche market, do not display your pictures at Walmart. Though you may get alot of traffic, you will likely not get alot of buyers. "Welcome to Walmart".

I was at 6.475 this morning and it was at 6.12 like fifteen minutes ago before I got distracted and posted my score, but still happy. I have missed the update button though, still addicting...
