Hey CVette, I started a thread about this, and all I am told is "please don't cry, take it as a man and get over it".
Everywhere there are people who likes to harass (?), just for the fun of it. I am in europe right now, it is over midnight and I have been waken up three times by telephone ringing once then hanging up - number shows, it is from Ghana - I suspect one of these USD 25 / minute numbers. I'd rather have a million 1-votes than this harrassment.
If anyone is interested or able to help, the number is

Do NOT try to call it, unless you know it is not a number where YOU are charged for the call (I think it is a scam).
Pulling telephone plug now, good night. And when I wake up, please have my score above 6.0 again - will all those "one-spammers" stop harassing, pleeeese!

Hmm. Skype says 0.166 USD a minute, so it cannot be that bad. Just called the number via SkypeOut, and it seems to be a working normal number. Asked the guy to stop calling me! I wish i could block all Ghana numbers, don't have any friends at +233 anyway!

Well, calculating this, I just got a "four", that's fair enough ... keep hitting me!
Have made spreadsheet now where votes and average score can be entered, then it tells what score has been cast since last "update". More than one vote, and it gives the average of the last "x" scores ... upload it somewhere? A very simple sheet, but it makes it easier for all those who wants to track current scores ...

I was just venting a little. I tell myself it should all even out in the end, right? Some people vote high and some vote low. It's all part of posting a photo for a critque/challenge.
Sorry to hear about the phone calls.
I also made I spreadsheet. It's interesting to see the score movement over time. I'll post it later. |

Well, yeah, I won't cry :-) I just HATE it if it is someone who wants to spoil the fun, on purpose. If it is how people genuinly feel they should rate the pictures, fine with me. I can just see before me some teen prankster sitting and giving random scores just to see how they can affect the outcome! Talk about being bored ... but yes, these people are for real!

I am getting really pissed off about now!
My entry,which has been dropping steadily, it now at a flat 5.0.
Sorry to all the (idiot) voters out there, it meets the challenge, is a nice image - no way in hell is it a 4.anything image.
I don't know what's up with the voting this challenge, but i have seen nothing like it in my time here at DPC, and frankly, it's enough to drive me away.

I feel the drop, but again, it might be my work... not that good (painful to say it)
Even though we feel voting is going down to hill, I checked the previous winners... They are well deserved photos.. nothing that makes me think there could be a sabotage.
Even there are some tasteless people here, don't know anything about photos and art, I still believe majority will always decide the final good results.

My poor entry is still sinking and sinking - sometimes bit by bit and sometimes by giant leaps. It hung onto 6.3 for a long time but is now 5.60. Several times when it dropped by quite a bit I figured out what the vote was and it was a 3.
I do think it's pretty dreadful when people automatically give flower pictures a low score. I've voted on 40 something percent so far and some of the flower pictures are really, really lovely and meet the challenge perfectly. Most of the ones I liked the best so far have been flowers. |

Yes, you are correct, NOW, I have ... sorry for being new here, I just didn't get it, now I feel it is just a general apathy against it.
Let me point out that it is not MY scores I whine about, the lowest score I have "registered" so far is a 4 (edit: 3!), which is fair. It is the other pics which rate far higher than mine, that sometimes get a "one" hit.
Edit: While writing this, I just got a three :-)

I know I have gotten at least two nines (so people write in the comments), and a spread between 3 and 9 is fair.
Then, after reading the Bokeh discussion, I made sure my picture had
1) "Bokeh rings" as some will say it has to have
2) Background bokeh is actually emphasizing foreground picture (will not give more details at this stage)
3) Picture is really nice looking, not ribbon, but it is not bad.

On a challenge like this with a wide area of interpretation, you are bound to get a low score now and then. Overall, be happy with a 6.00 on your 3rd challenge. In an open challenge, 6.00 usually signifies 90th percentile (roughly). So you aren't doing bad at all...
