OK, this is discouraging. After dropping from 5.7 to 5.4 I got hit with a 1. Yes, it's a flower but it's got great bokeh, color, contrast and composition. Why do people feel the need to hand out 1's with no comment as to why or how to improve?

After cruising through my first 3 challenges care-free, I'm starting to see what people mean about a thick skin.

Some people are just like that.

Personally, if it meets the challenge and isn't an absolutely terrible shot, the lowest I might score a shot is a 3. (which doesn't usually happen very often)

I do attempt to give usefull comments on things that might enhance the image or how to look at it from a different perspective.

EDIT: Here's where I am now!

I really didn't expect this.

Hey BeeCee, what does "Flexibility of Opinion" mean?

I think I've got some folks at work with that trait.

Down a smidgeon from 6.625 but still hanging on (barely) to a personal best. I'm not confident of even making it into the top 10 percent, considering all of the high scores I've seen posted, and just knowing that there are many more that are being held close to the vest. Very pleased, none the less.

I started off very good for me. First vote was a 9 and stay in the 8 range for a few votes then the drop.

The first 47 votes averaged 6.9170 with 8 comments
The next 63 votes averaged 5.7287 with 4 comments. A full 1.1883 lower!
So my current score on 110 votes is 6.2364 with 12 comments.

There for a while I thought I had a chance to beat my hight score of 6.624 but unless the voting turns that will be out of the question. BTW my last vote was a 1. Thanks!

Yea, I know that feeling, getting a lot of low votes myself and NO I don't have a picture of a flower. ;)

Started much like your score did and am sitting around the same as you, but a little lower. ;)

Ouch! Is everyone else getting hammered. I've gone down 3/10th (.3) of a point in the last 10 hours.
06/22/2006 10:36:37 AM · #208
I've ducked under 3, with 2.9xx. Don't think anyone can touch me for a brown ribbon now.

Last night was brutal. It was like a band of theives came through DPC. I lowered drastically in not just bokeh, but my desolation. My last comment said they gave me a ten though so I don't get it.

If that comment was from me I voted right after the challenge started. I only came back in today to leave comments. So, that wouldn't change your score any.

that's my score.
I'm a bit disappointed because the sole 3 comments I got gave me a high score. And 114 people voted on it...I want to know what they think!! :-) I'm not aiming for a ribbon, that's a dream....

However, I want to do better than my first challenge, which I am doing so far.

And yes, it's one of those damn "FLOWERS". But I felt like my flower is one of the very few that really stood out. *sigh*

It does look like you cruised the first 3 challenges. Especially for someone from Clifton Park! Don't worry, even the big dogs can't stay over 6 all the time. (Well, maybe Kiwiness can...)

From nearly 6 im down to just above 5. Bummer.

Mind you, it is a flower, so it's to be expected i guess looking through the other entries.
06/22/2006 11:32:16 AM · #214
I lied. Mine is not a flower :(
I couldn't sleep all night last night because of this. (lying again)

But the score seems to have stabilized at a smidgeon above the low point it reached yesterday.

Thanks. I'm not worried, I'm still learning the ways of DPC.
BTW, do you know Clifton Park?

"...it's to be expected..." ???

Don't be so glum.
Highs and lows come and go.
Just because you have a flower shot doesn't mean you should "expect" it to score low.
Smile and have some fun!

I just reformatted the above paragraph...sounded poetic - maybe I should keep it for this subject (flower shots) that continues to rise above and into fray frequently.

Ok...I'm getting silly. Need to grab some lunch. ;^)

OK, here's what I've decided - since the scores on this one are so depressing, I'll vote only on a 7-10 scale. And I'll favor the flowers. :-)

(No, probably not really, but it'll make me feel better!)

Only my 3rd challenge and so far better score than my other challenges and thanks for the kind comments! It's not a flower either.

In THIS case, it's a good thing, tho' I guess not necessarily always! :)
I meant that often people his age tend to have strong black&white beliefs and sometimes cling stubbornly to them. He still felt his was technically right, but was willing to change his actions in recognition of the common opinion.
Sometimes it just means you have no trust in yourself and your beliefs!

And btw..... I hate my score, just to keep it on-topic ;)

I've been dropping stedily for 2 days now...3 comments - one says '9' and one says'10' - so why the 5.11? It started at 5.88!

Arrrrgh.
On the plus side - i've had 3 wedding inquiries this week - you can vote me a 3 if you pay me!
