This is one of the criteria I am using in my voting and I am sure some people won’t like it.

I always smile when people quote Ken Rockwell as an authoritative source of any kind of information. He's discredited himself on many occasions.

I am not saying Ken is the authority on Bokeh; I just like his explanation of it. You can fined lots of stuff on the web about it from different people. Some will say it is simply blurring focus in an image to key in on a subject.

I personally think it is a bit more than that. A blurry back ground to me is just a depth of field technique that also puts the focus on the main subject.

My bokeh is okehkeh, so pure you could fuel dragsters with it. Unfortunately my scores have been consistently rising and the brown ribbon is a fading dream.

So, you created your own definition of Bokeh, and now go around handing out low marks to people who don't share your definition? :) Definition of Bokeh is not a matter of personal opinion.

Here's another couple of references, according to which "Bokeh" simply means out-of-focus elements, or "fuzzy" in direct translation from Japanese:
//en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bokeh
//www.luminous-landscape.com/columns/sm-04-04-04.shtml

But, most importantly, the challenge description gives a pretty clear definition of Bokeh: Loosely defined, bokeh is the quality and "feel" of the out-of-focus foreground or background elements of a photo. Wrong or right, that's the definition that needs to be used for voting in this challenge, everything else is just not fair.

This bokeh is weapons grade and may be refined to fuel inter-galactic time machines.
It was taken 25 years before the challenge dates though.

Are we a little sensitive?

I never said I was handing out low scores if a photo did not have exactly what I like. There are over 400 photos in this challenge. I was simply sharing how I like to see it used.

How a person choose what is good boken and what is ok boken is totally based on personal opinion.

Everything about how a person feels about art is personal.

If you don’t want to hear how people interpret photos and photo techniques why are you here?

I asked you about this in an earlier message, and you did not provide a direct answer. From your other posts I understood that, in your opinion, Bokeh is only the quality of rendering of OOF circular hightlights. So, I concluded, that if a photograph does not show any recognisable circular highlights, you'd vote it down, since you said that you were using this definition when voting.

I was not speaking of good or bad Bokeh. I simply objected to the notion that out-of-focus fuzziness is not Bokeh at all. Have I misunderstood you?

Again, I was only arguing about the *definition* of Bokeh. I think that your (and Ken Rockwell's, for that matter) definition (if I understood it correctly) of Bokeh is wrong, which I pointed out.

Arghhhhhhhh, the "discussion" on this will never end....

But my last vote was an 11!! :D
Well, obviously someone was doing some bumping up too, but it looked nice!

Might have been me - I gave out a bunch of 11's. I vote a 10, then go back and vote a 1 on the same pic. That works, right?

:-)

(Do not try this at home!)

Well .. I really didn't expect much from my photo .. it's just ok .. took my original entry out because I knew I wouldn't have time for the update button or anxiety this week :o) ... but today .. what a shock. I went from a 4.77 this morning to a 4.70 this evening.
